    Re-purposed bookshelves

So we spent days trying to figure out how to make these work for our mantids. This is what we came up with. We still have babies housed in another room. But for now, this set up allows our bigger ones to "be a part" of every day life.  :)

Signs that they are dying? :(

So far, they are still alive. We got them about a month ago as adults. Ega was up and moving around good yesterday but is was not wanting to eat....not really even wanting honey. Galia was not moving much yesterday. Today she was in the bottom of her habitat...just laying there. I put her on...

Signs that they are dying? :(

Ega was initially hanging but fell. That was when I knew something was wrong.  :(   I put her back on her lid and she has remained there. As has Galia.  No vomit in either. I am using maunka honey that cost a small fortune.  ;)   It is the same honey we use for medicinal purposes. I am...

Signs that they are dying? :(

So, 2 days ago, one of my galinthias amoenas, Ega,  looked/acted like she was dying. She could not move, almost like she was paralyzed. The only thing that was moving were her antennae and they were moving faster than I could have ever imagined. I got some honey on a toothpick and fed her and...

    Humidity help!!!

Thank you all!  I have a dozen or so meters to register the humidity. I am struggling as they are showing 45-53 more times than not.  I will keep a close eye on them and continue to mist daily, or twice if need be.  :)

    Humidity help!!!

Winter time, our house has a high humidity. We successfully raised hundreds of Chinese mantids. Summer time is KILLING me!  I lost 3 sub adult mantids this week.  :(  Though "only" insects....I am very much attached to each and every one. Each loss was very difficult. None were during molts. ...

    Pipe cleaners???

I am cleaning out a craft room and found several thousand pipe cleaners. Could these be used in their habitat? As decoration? To hang on? To safely but securely attach an ooth to the top? I would love your opinions and suggestions! Our craft room will soon be our mantid room!  ❤️

We lost a mantid last night.and ooth question :(

We sold a lot of the Chinese to various schools. And we released 70 into our garden and woods.  :)   We are down to just under 2 dozen and I am hoping we can breed them.  Though I am terrified of not being able to protect the male!

We lost a mantid last night.and ooth question :(

Hi guys!  We lost one of our Chinese mantids last night. I'm not even sure what happened. He was hanging from the top but only by one leg. Maybe a molt gone bad??? He was not one of our pet mantids. But it upset me, nonetheless.  We raised 247 Chinese from the time they hatched until present...

    Can maniids survive slow shipping?

So glad to know I am not the only one!  I know many won't ship unless Express. And I don't ever want a mantid to die while in transit. But I have been taking the distance, temp and such into factor and have been very fortunate so far as well!  :)

    Can maniids survive slow shipping?

So glad they were okay!  As odd as it  sounds, we have had better luck with priority than with express.

    They are adorable!!!

    To save on shipping.

They are L6/L7.    Our orchid devours dubias. I haven't tried the Chinese as I thought I read they didn't care for them.  I wish they did.  I have the worse luck with fly pupae.  LOL!
