    I've seen some of all species do this and then they don't do it from molt to molt. It appears kinda random...

    Thanks Rick for the positive id and Katnapper, I had the lens pretty close to the mantis and just as I took the shot she looked at something else...and it came out like that. She does look a bit mad :lol:

    He should be fine. As Phillin Yuma suggested, if you ever get really desperate you can try to feed him honey. They'll also accept various forms of meat, chicken, hamburger etc.

    I know an excess of it will, one reason why it is better to use distilled water to mist them with... but I doubt it would kill the mantis.

    Don't know about Vietnam but there are many people even here in the U.S. who believe that killing mantids are illegal here, while that's not exactly true. It's possible that your friends are mistaken. However I won't say anything definite until I see some sources.
