    Unfertilized ooth contains eggs?

Oh alright. I just assumed an infertile ooth wouldn't contain any eggs inside. It's probably because of my terrible slicing skills. I was using a pretty dull knife and the foam was pretty hard to penetrate.

    Unfertilized ooth contains eggs?

My adult female Budwing mantis laid an ooth about a 1-2 weeks ago. I have never mated her and the person I purchased her from told me she has never been with a mate, so I automatically assumed the ooth was unfertilized. Assuming the ooth was unfertilized, I decided to slice open the ooth out of...

    Blue bottle flies

Right now, I'm not planning on breeding this batch of flies. I'm only looking to keep them alive for as long as possible. I have no food source for them and I don't want them to die off within the next couple of days.

    Blue bottle flies

So I bought 100 blue bottle larvaes (spike/maggots), but due to the heat and humidity in Florida, it seems more than half of them arrived completely hatched. It's like they only lasted in pupae form for a single day. They were shipped out Monday, and arrived Wednesday morning. I didn't plan for...

    L1/first instar comparison (appearance only)

Amazing pictures! I absolutely love the L1 boxers, they are so cute when they are huddled up with their disproportionate body parts :pinch: Then there are the ones with great displays of color. Sad to see them lose their beautiful colors after the first instar. Geez, I wish I had your macro...

    [VIDEO] Budwing mantis vs. Cricket

    1) Yes, it got devoured. Along with a third cricket as well. 2) At time of recording: 4-5, not including the ones in her raptors. Now: 0, all have been eaten.

    Blue bottle flies

I was originally planning on breeding crickets. Because of how large they are, it doesn't take much to fill up my mantises. But I've changed my mind on it. I've read around that crickets will eat other decaying crickets, and also the fruits/veggies I put in their enclosure eventually becomes...

Thought it was pretty funny, so I decided to make a video clip out of it :pinch:

    Red liquid?

Came home to a mysterious red liquid in my Chinese mantis's enclosure. It's on the lid of the enclosure as well, and with the way gravity works, I can rule out that it's not poop. The only other explanation is vomit. I inspected my mantis and looks to be doing perfectly fine.

    Exo

Bought an Idolo from Exo. Usually see Idolo nymphs going for $20+, and that's not even including shipping. The Idolo I purchased from Exo was $23 after shipping. Amazing price that I couldn't skip out on. Just wish this user was in the US. Ships from Europe, so if you are in the US, expect at...

    Using fish as feeders?

Honestly, I don't see anything morally wrong with it. I'm pretty sure they're are plenty of mantises out in the wild eating vertebrates. Yes, their main diet are invertebrates, but I'm pretty sure if they had the chance and a vertebrate walked right in front of their raptors, they would snag it...

    Using fish as feeders?

Anything wrong with using fish as feeders? I've seen a couple videos on YouTube of people feeding tiny fish to their mantises. There's a small pond behind my backyard where I could easily catch some small minnows.

Acromantis japonica molted to adult! Obtaining the green trim.

When I place my hand inside her enclosure and she gets all skittish, she tends to flap her wings during her jumps from time to time. From all the times I have taken her out of her enclosure, which is at least once every day, she has yet to fly away from me. EDIT: Just took her out of her...

Acromantis japonica molted to adult! Obtaining the green trim.

Mine loves to jump and run :pinch: She is extremely aggressive when there is prey in her enclosure, so she'll jump at anything she lays her eyes on, but when my hand gets in there, she gets all skittish and starts running around jumping into everything.
