    mismolted mantis help

Really need a pic for that kind of thing. Does not sound good at all. Is the thorax still bent with the head stuck in the exuvia? Or is it stuck at the abdomen, or both? I wouldn't pop anything but then I can't see it. Seems as if something went really wrong if there is a pocket.

Was This A Successful Mating Attempt?

Doesn't look good. Did he fall off her on his own or did you remove him? I always leave damaged males on the female as they can continue to mate all day or longer, and can stay alive for days if not completely eaten.

    Idolo Picks Dog's Nose

    Update suggestion?

There is a notification option for that kind of thing in the settings. It is not a feed but if others change their statuses or write in the profile feeds, you will be notified. I have mine turned off. I just go to fb if that is what I want to see. The forum has enough activity for me without...

How do I fix his leg?

Is the lid it is on, the lid to it's container?

How do I fix his leg?

If it is only one leg and he can hang, he will fix it himself. Please don't tape or cut him. I have seen many bent legs improve before another molt if the mantis can hang on the deformed leg. A photo can be helpful if you would like a more detailed prognosis.

    Is chilvary dead?! The courtship!

I almost forgot about the couple of Carolina males that have gone up to the female, made a threat display, and smacked her in the head. Those females were receptive and didn't even flinch. The first time that happened, I put the mantids away sure that mating would not be successful. However...

    Is chilvary dead?! The courtship!

Yeah. What he said. My females have noticed the male behind them. Sometimes they whip their heads around to get a good look. :o It freaks me out every time and I end up blocking with my hand whether it is needed or not. :sweatdrop:

    Carolina Update

Spencer is a looker! He looks robust and has thick legs. Probably going to be a strong one.

    Is chilvary dead?! The courtship!

I have noticed that some females will lay down their forelegs in a non-threatening position when they are receptive to a male and notice him.

    First molt!!

Give it a day. The smaller nymphs harden faster. If nymph doesn't eat, remove the feeder and try the next day.

    Maso Jar enclosures

They look cool, but many mantids can't climb glass and will stress themselves out if they can't climb the sides. Sticks are usually not enough, in my experience, unless many sticks and leaves are glued to sides. Some mantids will continue to try to climb up the glass even if there is a stick...

    Phidippus regius - Phyliok.

Lovely creatures and photos! I miss my Phidippus regius! :( She died not too long ago. I wasn't able to find a mate for her. They are hard for me to find even if they are one of my local species. I will ceartainly be hunting for more soon.

    I feel a little stupid

I have had moms that didn't even try to eat the babies. One time, mom was laying an ooth when another hatched in with her. When she finished, she was frantically trying to escape the container, and a nymphh had become stuck in the still wet ootheca, it sunk right in and there was nothing I could...

    When to start feeding?

    1. As soon as they start to get hungry they may choose a sibling even if there is other prey in there. 2. They need a day or 2 before prey should be introduced. 3. If nymphs are dying before the 2nd instar, stress could be the cause. If they are running all over eachother, or from prey, they...

    I feel a little stupid

I had this happening with Stagmomantis carolina this morning. Mom was still in the container when her ootheca hatched. I keep telling myself that I won't let that happen, but then I always end up waiting too long. Eating french fries is exactly how I would describe what I saw this morning.

    I can't find them anywhere .....

Around here, it is the well manicured lawns and anoles that make it hard for me to find any of my releases. I am in a bad mantis spot. Once I saw ants carrying my nymphs around.
