    Yen Saw - (US)

Received some ooths from Yen. In great codition and well packaged. Plus a really nice person to deal with. Thanks Yen :D

    Black liquid

Sounds like the black liguid was the cricket you were feeding him. You could see the food passing through the mantid. Nothing to worry about.

    Thanks Asa. :)

    Molting failure

Interesting. Why does it make a diff if you cut at the joint? How does that prevent infection? Thanks.

    Speckled nymph

Fair enough. I keep only CB stock and have never experienced a diseases in my mantids. I should not have put that in my post, only added as I thought disease would also produce markings on the mantids exo-skeleton in a similar way infections do. Have edited post.

    Molting failure

I would not recomend cutting your mantid. :? Cutting any area of the leg might cause infection and do alot more harm than good. If you are hoping that your mantids defects will be fixed through consecutive molts then cutting any area of the leg off will not help the situation and only prove to...

    Keeping Records

I have a calender that I record when females and males are ready to be mated and date of ooths laid / expected hatches.

    Speckled nymph

I find that natural markings on a praying mantid that aren't sign of infection are usually symetrical. So if you sliced the mantid from head to abdomen both halfs would have the same markings in the same places. It is difficult to tell from Ogigas pic but I think you can just make out the...

    Why the long horn?

I think the Horn must be a camouflage aid. Breaking up the mantids form so its even harder to see where the head starts.

    Creobroter Housing

Good Luck Sparky! :D Keep us informed how its going. Like I said get 3 - 4 mantids if you can. Maybe try buying another Sp that might be easier to rear aswell as your creobroter. :D :P  :D :P

    Walking strangely

Was it caused by a previous molt? The legs may look intact but they could be slightly twisted in the last shed. Is it an old mantid? Maybe its just getting unsteady with age.

Intelligence Debate > Creation/Evolution poll xD

What ever your beliefs are, whatever your religion or god, there is no excuse for being rude to another person on any side of a debate. Or am I wrong and there is cause to be rude? I find the idea of a god a beautiful thing. I envy those who have real faith and more than this draw strength...

    Creobroter Housing

I could advise you to keep a better starter species such as an african, budwing or Giant asian mantid but if you have your heart set on this sp why not :D No you do not need a heat mat. Room temperature will be fine. I would use Spagnum moss or vermiculite as a substrate, spray every 3 days...

    Chloroharpax modesta ooth

If it was an ooth produced by a female later in life and one of her last ooths laid then the hatch rate could be low. If Padkison's ooth hatch in one batch then there is no reason to suspect any more will hatch from your own. Still, it never hurts to keep the ooth around for a few days longer...

How old is everyone here? etc etc

I 24 years old. I keep mantids predominantly and have done for some time. I have about 7 different Species and an 8th on the way (Thanks Yen 8)). I also have a few Millipedes, Cockroaches and Phasmids. I work as a fresh produce Sales man. Its basically an office job where I try and sell...

    Spiny Flower Preying Mantis.

A mantid will usually eat until full then ignore any other food items, or drop a partially eaten meal. There are cases of mantids eating so much food as to burst the abdomen. These stories are rare and many keepers including myself have never had it happen. You will find Nymphs and Gravid...

giant Asian Mantis nymph sleeping on finger...

It sounds like your mantid is crouching down to look inconspicous. Hiding itself from a potential threat. Could be thirsty with its mouth parts on your hand but if it wasn't moving to find moisture then its unlikely. Or, finding the warmth on your hand it might be crouching to warm up its own...
