    Steve Irwin

I gotta say this... sorry to all those people that loved him but hey... Yeah, no one SHOULD die and my heart goes out to his family etc but honestly- he kinda deserved it! He brings all animals he shows to the point of retalliation- snakes don't bite if you avoid them but he got them all so...

    1.3 ooths...

I have two of those *still as yet not 100% sure on species, possible Stagmomantis Limbata* mantids and both were mated, and both laid two very nice perfect first ooths. I fed them continuously after that expecting 2 more... but instead I got a third EACH. i.e. they both laid the first...

    Moth breeding

Well, it's a little late for peppered moths but if you were finding these a month or so ago, they could very well be - although half an inch is a little short for this species-growing up to around an inch in body length... I think to adequately identify these i'd need a picture-but many moths...

    Moth breeding

Not too sure what you mean here- the waxmoths are a little over half an inch long (Galleria mellonella) - these are the typical ones you buy from shops as *wax worms* and i'm looking at my colony now and they're about 1.5- 2cm as adults... Silvery moth is a little vague but they're the common...

    aes

what species at the aes? any chance of reserving some?! :D any ooths?

    Moth breeding

They're ALL productive if given the right foodplant etc - depends on the size you want... There's not really a lower size for these because if you want to feed the lower instar mantis nymphs, just pick out a hatchling caterpillar... Easiest in my opinion: waxmoths - feed on honey...

    Moth breeding

yeah... it's quite fun actually - although you need a fresh supply of foodplant every day! - this is easily solved if you have for example a privet or oak tree in your garden (or whatever foodplant) and then put the cat's on it in a net cage actually around the branch- only problem occurs when...

    Moving fruit flies

-or what i do... cut a lemonade bottle in half, stick in culture medium or mashed potatoe mix so it sticks in the bottom... tape up the two halves... and now you have a more convenient nozzle from which to pour them out... - great if you hav vials to tip them into... either way, best thing to...

    Who says Bees/wasps are dangerous?

Thought i'd put this here even though it's an old-ish post... I fed a bumblebee to one of my s.limbatas and it stung her right between its first and second legs... It now has a distinct darkening in her eye but survived the night... Do you think the darkening will go down? do you think this...

    Good shipping practices.

ooo, sounds like this is edging towards a *name n shame* post!.. I agree totally though- anyone that's been on a plane for more than a few hours knows how painful it is towards the end- insects the same - especially live insects. Ooths, not sure about- I think here it's SENSIBLE so send them...

    shared lunch...

He seemed to have his share, (which wasn't much as he's tiny) - and then after a few too many nips to his leg cos he was too close, he walked off...

    shared lunch...

I just saw something i've never seen before... I was trying to mate some oxyopsis and so i gave the lady a cricket to munch on before i tried. I then put the male in there, close behind her and he gave that *interested* look so i thought all was well... He then mounted the female- but instead...

    Insect pets

oooo... about 5 types of leaf/stick insect, scorps, T's, millipedes, centipedes, roaches, assassin bugs, plant bugs, moths, butterflies, various beetles.. I'm sure there's others... pretty sure this sort of collection is standard on a site like this..

    Beetles

Depends what beetles you're after... Obviously african savanah beetles will need dry, almost sandy conditions but tropical beetles will need more humid. I'll assume you want things like the hercules, rhino, fruit or stag beetles though as these are the most common... Treat them very much like...

    treehoppers

I bet moulting is next to impossible for them

    Different morphs, same species?!

So you think both the male and the stumpy winged female is S.limbata? Kinda hoping so cos that's what mated... As for the larger one... still no idea what it could be but it's just moulted to adult - unfortunately only has one and a half front raptoral forelegs but apart from that, if anyone...

    Different morphs, same species?!

ok, so we've seen your best guesses... :) Anyone ever tried mating these (Hierodula Parviceps and Stagmomantis Limbata as Yen suggested)? because mine DID mate... whether they produce fertile ooths is the will of the gods

    Different morphs, same species?!

http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b244/bet.../mantisunknown/ ok, I now highly doubt they're the same species... thorax in the *winged* mantis is quite a deal wider and on the bud-winged form, the wings are yellow/clear checked pattern whereas the winged one has clear membranous wings... The...

    Different morphs, same species?!

Well, I bought 10 or so nymphs a while back (they're still unknown in terms of species as I bought them as one thing and they turned out to be completely different)... But They all are exactly the same size, both have a light cream speck on their abdomen, about 3 inches long and light green...
