    h.lividum

I agree with u there- they're reputed to be diggers but mine haven't yet - I've given them 5 inches or so of compost and still nothing :( - just webbing over the surface. Although my h.gigas are really keen diggers and they're loads of fun! I don't know why people don't like the burrowing...

    New with a few questions.

I agree with Rick... perhaps a sphodromantis would be best - especially over a chinese... Anyone else in the forum feel free to correct me but I think a beginner's mantis should be stocky (because they can generally take larger prey), large (again, the prey issue and because they are somewhat...

    centipedes

...and to follow up... I just got some new scholopedra 'robusta' gigantea!!! - These things are known to grow up to a foot long and are the ones you always see in pictures eating mice (which i believe there's a link to somewhere) - and like the cobalt blue T's... scares the heck outta you when...

    h.lividum

Just got two female h.lividums! For a really cool pic: http://www.bighairyspiders.com/pix/cobalt1.jpg Always wanted some of these and heard they were aggressive and I SO know why they've got that reputation now... The second I opened the tub it came in, it virtually attacked me! -...

    mice as PETS

yeah but then i'd e tempted to make a super-rat... the ones that are cat-sized running around parts of london... I like mice- they're more fun/playful, cuter and 'psychologically' - I feel they're cleaner... So anyone know where I can get some?! :)

    mice as PETS

Hamsters are walking blobs... My reasons for not wanting guinea pigs was edited out of the last post but not a fan of them either  - rabbits are too big and girly (no offense girls), and those manic chinchillas or whatever are just too perky- feel bad locking them up :(

    mice as PETS

...and on that lovely topic of mice getting eaten (below) - thanks for that post  Does anyone know where you can get them as pets?!... pet shops are a teeny tiny bit expensive so i was thinking maybe the people who sell them frozen could just resurect a few... or better yet, just...

How when to sex green bottle blues?

Well, the only time you'll really need to sex a tarantula is when it's an adult (cos u can't mate a juvenile) - at that stage it's easy- the males will have tarsal spurs on the front legs (hooks on the underside) - and big bulbous (club shaped) pedipalps (the 'small legs' ) on the front of the...

    Metalic pink?

Yeah it looks like it... If the adult pic you have there is the metallic pink, then you might as well go for the normal... either that or i have a metallic pink without knowing it. But honestly, that pic does look slightly more vibrant than mine- could just be the lighting though- but i doubt...

    Metalic pink?

I bought mine as adults so i can't really say for the juvs... but The second is definitely the grammostola rosea... I think it all depends how the pictures are taken whether the metallic sheen is that vibrant. All three of mine look like the adult picture you've shown- but that picture looks...

    Webpage directory

I agree... Although pretty much all of them have already been mentioned *somewhere* in the forum, they're all kinda scattered so a big list would be useful. I think Ian already put up a list somewhere of mantis related sites but perhaps a more organised list would be useful. Suggested titles...

    erm... HELP...

it's my g.rosea... well, one of them - the bloke seems quite happy under there... maybe i should just let a few crickets roam wild and go from there :D

    erm... HELP...

I decided i'd have a break from revision (FINAL YEAR-WOO!!!) - and i thought it would be fun to mate one of my tarantulas... well... I put the lass on the floor in her container, put the bloke in... he did his business (BIG WOO!!!) - but now he's bolted under my bed!!!  :shock...

Tried the mating thing for my Rosies...

i think most Ts can flick hairs, it's never been a problem for me - but i might just not have caught one in my skin or eyes... And yeah, honestly, you'll be a little bored of a chile rose - it just kinda sits there. Tough choice... of the T's I have: red knee: pretty, but mediumly aggressive...

Tried the mating thing for my Rosies...

never been bitten... the chile rose seem pretty docile. I've heard stories but they're slow and sluggish so you should be able to pick them up no problems - males it seems are more docile than females. And no, i thought you were asking about the p.metallicas - i wouldn't get one! As for the...

Tried the mating thing for my Rosies...

The only one i hold is the chile rose... rarely the b.vagans... and those p.metallicas can be found at the bts show or occasionally on the bulletin board. But if you're not completely confident with slings then I would strong advise you getting some... wouldn't want 100 quid to go down the...

Tried the mating thing for my Rosies...

adult females - around £20... some can go as cheap as 12-15, others for 30... depends where you get them from but less than 15-20 is rare. Unlike mantids, T's are usually priced according to 3 criteria - rarity, size/beauty or time they take to mature... The chile roses are pretty common, not...
