    Ghost egg laying problems

I bred my female Ghost about 3 weeks ago; she was 6+ weeks adult and the male was about 2 weeks adult, both were 'virgins'. The male stayed hooked up for about 5 hours; I separated them later after he had disconnected because I was worried about losing my only male. She was fat and gravid and...

help, nest building mantid in my orchidarium

That is what I'd do, no need to damage your Dendrobium. Worst case, let the Den. grow a little larger and remove just that leaf and leaf-base containing the egg case; the Den's new growth should be fine.

    Minimum temperatures?

Talked to my buddy and he assures me that the house will be 75 or warmer, and he is excited to see and take care of the mantises - cool!

    My ooth hatching set-up

Most of a typical ooth is just random foam bubbles, sometimes somewhat striped. Somewhere directly opposite where the ooth was attached, there should be a line of things that does not look random, looks different, more planned. It might look like zigzag lines (zipper), it might look like stacked...

    Minimum temperatures?

I'm just thinking back to times I've stayed at their house (not always October), and the forecast looks like lows around 59 for the forseeable. Just planning ahead and trying to make sure the mantis survive until I can take them home again. And I'm trying to keep the babysitting simple so the...

    Hello all! o/

Greetings! Remember, most people buy mantis as nymphs so the have more time with them. Even if you get one of the bigger species, it might be a smaller insect when you buy it, unless you can buy an adult or near-adult.

Hello Mr. Q, how do you do? :)

    Minimum temperatures?

That sounds pretty extreme, are you sure it was the temperature? I mean, Texas has lows above 65 for a rather short time of the year, maybe 4-5 months? I'll see if the mantis can be kept in a warmer room, or maybe the orchids will have to go on the road with me... Any other opinions?

    Minimum temperatures?

I'm going to have to take my mantis to a babysitter for a week and they are in a colder climate. If they don't heat their house, what are the minimum temps for the following mantis before they have cold-related problems: Creos Orchids Ghosts Will nights of 65 be a problem? Nights of 60...

    Eyes Changing Color?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ommatidium See paragraph 5: "In many species, in low-light situations, the pigment is withdrawn, so that light entering the eye might be detected by any of several ommatidia. This enhances light detection but lowers resolution."
