    Howdy

You will most likely be buying smaller sizes anyway, which is more fun as you can watch them grow up and change. Large: Hierodula membranacea, possibly Violins (Gongylus gongylodes), I'm sure others will suggest some options. I'm having fun with the 3 species I'm raising but none of them get...

    Exo-Terra nano.

I just got a deal on a Nano and it might become my Orchid female's home and laying chamber in the future. Or a communal home for ghosts...

    Howdy

Idolos are definitely do-able but they are a challenge - there are a number of people here that have had success with raising them and know all the pitfalls, so there's a lot to read up. As for beginner species: what are you interested in? Large or small, colorful or cryptic, mantis-looking or...

    Flower Mantis

They look like my C pictipennis male: Once my females got to sub-adult, they ate everything in sight and turned into little blimps! Just keep feeding her and she'll get to adult soon.

My Enclosures (new to raising mantids)

I have relatively few mantises so it's easy for me to keep them in separate containers. I have had pairs of Creos and pairs of Ghosts living together: - the Creos were somewhat aggressive and would intimidate each other; when they grew at different rates I separated them. - the Ghosts do fine...

And Bam it all looks more modern

Not fond of it so far: it has lost a couple of my new posts - poof! gone - and I have tried changing my avatar pic 5 times over 2 days and it won't stay changed. Most of the rest is OK.

    Leg Loss

Is the missing limb a walking leg or raptor? I had a Creo that lost a whole walking leg when it molted to sub-adult, and when it molted to adult the leg was replaced with a half-sized copy! If it had another shed I believe it would be back to normal. I think if your animal has 2-3 sheds to go...
