    Charoozz's Mantis Collection

@MantisGirl13 Thank you! Yes I wish I didn't have work today so I could have been home to observe her more. Counting down to 5pm  :D . Unfortunately, I do not, I am going to try and find her one though!

    The Mantis Team

She should be okay, I was worry about my female spiny because during her molt she lost both tarsal on one side and would only hang from two legs. But now three weeks later shes learning how to properly balance herself and use those legs. I would put mesh or some type of fabric on the sides of...

    Charoozz's Mantis Collection

Well my Pseudoxyop has been in heavy premolt and last night I saw her like this so I knew she was about to molt soon. I was worried since she was position towards the wall but it was getting to be 1am and I had to go to bed. But everything's okay! (Phew) I woke up this morning and looks like...

How to get blue bottle spikes to pupate?

Wet fish flake will probably work since they are high in protein, but I think that is pretty expensive in the long run compare to dog food. I breed BSF last year for my reptiles (before I got into Mantises, will probably try again now since the flies always went to waste but now I can feed...

    New and overwhelming

my L4 is actually taking Blue bottles! So that is an option if you look into it. Houseflies definitely works better since they are smaller.

How to get blue bottle spikes to pupate?

Okay if that is the case I think I will put them into a 32oz container with paper towels and mist lightly. I always thought they needed dry substrate to pupate. The least smelly option would be dog food, I grabbed the cheapest bag and soak it over night and they were all over it. They ate the...

How to get blue bottle spikes to pupate?

@MantisGirl13 thanks, I am going to transfer all the larvae that crawl out into a 32oz container with cocofiber then, the housemates are okay with my hobby but they weren't ecstatic to know some maggots got out through the cracks of the kritter keeper  ;)

How to get blue bottle spikes to pupate?

Hey all so I been trying to culture my own blue bottle flies with some success. I used a 32oz container with fruit fly media and dog food and have gotten a good amount of larvae.  From what I understand once the maggots start crawling towards the top of the container they are ready to pupate. I...

    Charoozz's Mantis Collection

Well I woke up this morning to I believe my Female Spiny calling! She molted to adult on 03/04 so it's been a bit over three weeks. The male molted on 03/20 though so I don't think he's quite ready yet. How long should I wait? I heard anywhere from 11days to 2 weeks.

    Charoozz's custom bioactive display tanks

@ohaple that’s pretty intense I would say it took about 7-10 days before the BBA started dying off. It would slowly turn pink or red that’s how you know it’s starting to die then it turns white and just disappears.

    Charoozz's custom bioactive display tanks

@ohaple so I went to extreme measures when I had a BBA outbreak and unfortunately this wouldn't work since you have shrimp. You pretty much get as many circulation pump as possible then dose hydrogen peroxide (I forgot the exact amount) you let that circulate for about 30mins then do a 50-80%...

    Charoozz's custom bioactive display tanks

@ohaple always wanted an Apex system, I will probably invest in one when I move next year (We are going to be neighbors! Moving to Denver). I never really liked seachem ferts except for Iron/Excel. I would recommend Thrive, this is what I used when I had my tank running. They also have a shrimp...

    Charoozz's custom bioactive display tanks

Yes luckily with Dart Frogs they don't mind the humidity so I have an automatic mister setup. I also have a fan inside the tank that circulates the air so it doesn't get stagnant. As for vertical and adding more depth to your tank here's a simple hack, get a nice growing pothos, and plant it...

    Charoozz's custom bioactive display tanks

@ohaple yes and the leaf litter helps them hide, I haven't seen my spiny too interested in the beetles since shes usually on the top half of her cage, confused flour beetles are way too tiny (size of a hydei). And I know what you meant with plants, most plants require more lights than people...

    Charoozz's custom bioactive display tanks

@MantisGirl13 thank you! I hope this will help anyone who is looking into building custom tanks or bioactive enclosures @ohaple So far just springtails, I will be adding some isopods soon though, just waiting for my dwarf purple culture to grow a bit more (I kind of use a lot of them recently...

    Hysteresis' Mantis Stream - 2019

Awww Noël is so pretty! My male spiny gets pissed off easily too, I ran my hand on the outside of this container and he freaked out, and pop to the other side.
