    Atlas moths anyone?

I rear a lot of different species of Saturniid moths. As Jesse mentioned, they don't eat as adults. Different species eat different plants as larvae. A few, like Attacus atlas, will eat many different things. Good winter food plants are Peppertree (Schinus spp.) and Privet (Ligustrum spp.)...

    wolf spider care

Wolf spiders are easy to care for. If they are spiderlings, just make sure they have access to small droplets of water (placed on a smooth horizontal surface) from which they can drink, and provide this once a day. They seem to get dehydrated very quickly...and they love to drink. Here's a...

    Rob Pearson (The Invertebrate Shop)

I just received an Idolomantis diabolica ooth - in good condition - from Rob. :D He shipped it quickly and packed it well. As we all know, having an I. diabolica ooth arrive in the US UNHARMED is rare, and many of us have had bad experiences with this. Rob is a great guy, and I will...

    Anyone interested in 'Cryptozoology'?

I am currently working on a degree in Zoology. I personally think there are lots and lots of undiscovered animals out there. Some are probably, amazing, large, weird, etc. So, I like some aspects of Cryptozoology a lot. For example, I am convinced that there is solid evidence that the...

    corn / royal over king?

I think it depends on what you look for in a snake. I personally think Cave Racers (Elaphe taeniura ridleyi) are the best snakes there is. Very beautiful, active and interesting snakes. But they aren't as easy to handle as corns or royal/ball pythons.

    Fruit flies

I use flightless D. hydei for all my nymphs. I rear them in 32oz deli cups using medium from Ed's Fly Meat https://www.shop.edsflymeat.com/categoryNav...oryStyle=Style4 To feed them to my mantises I pour a bunch through a funnel (interior painted with bug stop) into a 20 dram vial. Then I put...

    spider handling

I don't even want to imagine what would happen if I tried to handle my Heteroscodra maculata or my Psalmopoeus irminia. I have to chill them in the fridge for a while in order to clean their cages without risk of attack  ... Even then I only open their cages if I've had plenty of sleep...

    octopus

They are EXREMELY difficult to keep. One of my personal areas of study is Cephalopod neurophysiology and behavior (particularly squid and cuttlefish social behavior). Only a couple of species can even be kept alive by experts for extended periods. Plus they are even more sensitive to water...

    Assassin Bugs

They actually can climb glass, but mine don't do it very often. They can fly too. Also, the newly hatched nymphs are very tiny. These are all good reasons to have a tight-fitting screen lid with a small mesh size. :)

    Assassin Bugs

Hmm... I've never tried it. Don't think I want to actually...after hearing how painful their bite is, and watching them attack prey  . I use "stovepipe" forceps to gently pick up the nymphs and move them. For the adults I put on gloves and pick up the bark that they hide under and...

    Assassin Bugs

I keep the adults communally in a 10 gallon aquarium. I keep them fairly dry. They like to have bark or egg crates to hide under...much like roaches. I decided to give them a more "naturalistic" settup than I give my roach colonies though. They climb up to the tips of the grape branches in...

    Assassin Bugs

I have some of the P. "mombo" orange spot assassins. They are awesome. I like them as much as mantises actually. Very interesting behavior. They love to eat prey bigger than themselves. Never been sprayed by their venom either... :)

    Lacewings for feeers??e

Lacewing larvae are similar to antlions except that they are smaller, and don't make pits. Their morphology is similar, but they feed on aphids, not ants and as Johnald mentioned are sometimes called aphid lions. A lot of beneficial insect suppliers sell lacewings. You can buy true antlions...
