    Mini mealworms?

LOL!! Wouldn't it be nice to have your waistline determined by what you just ate? On the other hand, it'd suck to try to keep a wardrobe.

Are you looking for pest control or just to enjoy some mantids around your house?

    Yen Saw - (US)

I ordered a couple of Idolos from Yen. This is what the box arrived looking like: Which about gave me a heart attack, but thanks to his absolutely excellent care in packing, everyone inside was safe and sound, including an extra idolo and a freebie D. lobata, who is adorable and also safe...

    Some additions

Great pics... I love the color shift on the H majuscula, I am enjoying watching that. I might have to put together a little progression of molts pic series for each of mine, it'd be fun.

    Please help me out here

Are you worried about an introduced species (that already exists there) wiping out the native population of one particular other mantis species? Because that's likely unrealistic - habitats aren't the same. I don't have it handy but I recall reading in Keeping Aliens that Chinese can share a...

    c. pictipennis or poca spurca?

They seem to keep fine at room temp (although my ambient is 70+), but they also seem to be much more active and fun if kept at higher temps.

    Hello. :)

Welcome! I've learned SO much here. You can find out about the species you're interested in and then google "<species> care sheet" and find out exactly what they need (although you will get conflicting information sometimes) I also recommend this book, it's small but packed with good...

I'm sorry, the googlyeyes are too cute. ;)

    Giant Orchid Mantis Attack

Wow that is wild that they are so well articulated that you can get motion that realistic out of them. How long does it take you to do one?

My footage used by the California Academy of Sciences!

They do want to keep the mantis, right? Talk about needing a safety net!

    My L8 Idolo named Maple

Wow what a big gorgeous girl. Mine molted to L4 yesterday - I was stunned by the size difference between molts with these guys, and 'how did that bug even fit into that exoskeleton???'. I got some vid of the molt tho :) Fingers are crossed for you for the Big Molt!

    Mismolt

That sucks. Sorry to hear :(

    I blame my wife!

This made me smile. :) I asked the guy at the local pet store if he'd be interested in mantids and he said 'nah, I had some really cool cockroaches once and they just sat here forever' I thought.... Cockroaches don't run up your hand, tip their heads as they look at you, and dance. You wife...

    No more food

How do you know when they've over eaten? I wouldn't be surprised if my creo just ate until she exploded

    Phyllocrania consolidated

I have lost 2 at early instar to mismolt and its my impression that ventilation is pretty important for this species. I moved them from plastic housing to a caterpillar castle net cube with silk flowers sewn into it and have not had a problem since. It's a challenge keeping humidity up in the...

    c. pictipennis or poca spurca?

You can't have just one! ;) I haven't kept popas but I love my little creos. They're endlessly fun to watch hunt, fairly friendly, colorful and gorgeous. Plus I think C pictipennis's size is great.

They do mismolt often but there are so many that you end up with a decent population. I have some nymphs but if you want garden mantids I'd recommend putting an ooth outside (I got mine from gardensalive.com I think). I've seen Chinese, European & Carolina ooths available on eBay (caveat...

    More T. sinensis babies

Murph's second ooth hatched, I have around 40-50, so I'm estimating based on the last one's survival rate that 25-30 will reach L2. I'm asking $10, priority shipping with heat pack included, for 1-10, $12 for 11-20, etc. Basically just want to cover packaging and shpping fees and find these...

Sheep herding Swedish bunny becomes online hit

That'll do, bunny. Is the human giving it signals? I mean, it's amazing enough that the rabbit is definitely herding the sheep, but I thought I saw a human giving it hand signals. Have they actually trained it? My mind is blown and all my previous suppositions about what is possible are...

    Communal...!

I really have no idea what instar they are (Scott wasn't sure b/c he had several at several different stages and they were a freebie)... the houseflies are pretty significantly sized compared to them. Gemmatus are smaller than picti, too. All I can tell you for sure is that they've molted...
