    Broken ankle

I have a five month old (adult male) Sphodromantis lineola. His rear back ankle started bending the wrong way a couple days ago; now the foot seems dead, stiff, and useless. He still tries to climb with it, but it tends to just get stuck on things. I know insects don't quite work the same as us...

    DIY split aquarium conversion

Thanks for the support! Here is a brief update, now that I've finished the hinge and decorations (and added my other mantis, Creobroter gemmatus - actually a misorder but luckily not too hard to care for). As planned on doing, I put some hot glue in the corrugation holes and pushed ordinary...

    Wild caught versus cultured food

@Digger @CosbyArt Yeah... To be honest, when sojourning through the health issues forum, I noticed more issues related to cultured crickets (carrying viruses, chewing on molting mantises when left in the enclosure) than any "I fed my mantis this bug I found outside and now he's dead" etc...

    Wild caught versus cultured food

Hi, I've been feeding my two mantis nymphs (L3 Creoboter gemmatus, L5 Sphodromantis lineola) wild-caught food for several months now. My mantises seem healthy and happy, I have no problems catching enough food, and it's temperate enough that things should be hopping even when winter rolls...

    DIY split aquarium conversion

@CosbyArt Yeah, it took about 2 hours, and I have kind of shaky hands. If you've done any kind of hand sewing before it shouldn't be a problem though. @Ocelotbren I thought ghosts could be kept communally without much cannibalism? Regardless, if it helps any for completing your setup, I'll be...

    Hello from SoCal!

@Zeppy44 Yeah, I ordered another mantis... and ended up receiving two instead. If anything, I'm going to end up losing weight catching enough food for them... @crabbypatty Cool! They're very charming. I hope mine does as well as yours has.

    DIY split aquarium conversion

@CosbyArt Ok, I'll be sure to seal that up nice and tight before I put another mantid on the other side. Here's the mesh back. The fringe is a bit messy but... It was sewn by hand, no idea how to configure the machine for this. Pushing a needle through plastic is absolute heck on the...

    DIY split aquarium conversion

Hi folks. I got a decent size aquarium (12 in x 10 in x 20 in) the other day. I considered turning it on its side for a vertical enclosure, but then I realized... Hey... That's a decent size as is... probably enough for 2 mantises... Well, one $10 dollar trip to the hardware store later, that is...

    Hello from SoCal!

Thank you all! ^^ @CosbyArt Yeah, he's named Truck Reznor, which is a... really stupid joke about my favorite musician. Just Truck for short. (Going to take a lot of restraint to not name my incoming one "Car".)

    Hello from SoCal!

Hi, I'm Kasael. I just got my first mantis (Sphodromantis lineola... L4 nymph? still pretty small) a couple months ago, and I'm so endeared that I'm looking to get another (probably a flower mantis??). I've always loved catching bugs, so it's great having a pet that'll eat my catches. He loves...
