    Pain and insects

This is really interesting. I think that we are going to keep finding that bugs can feel pain, unlike what was previously thought, and it's going to make me feel even worse for feeder insects.

    phidippus audax

If they are sexually mature, Salticidae are supposed to breed easily.

    Summer plans/goals?

I want to learn more of another language while I still have this much free time. Either try to become sort of fluent in Russian or learn more German. Maybe I should make it a goal to handle some my handleable inverts more often, especially the jumping spider.

    Insects Mantises CANNOT eat?

Was the hornworm wildcaught? If I recall correctly, they eat poisonous plants like tomato leaves.

    Insects Mantises CANNOT eat?

I'll look into this further and reply more eventually because I'm really curious about this black death now. Ants definitely can kill things much larger than them in swarms. I've seen horror stories on another forum. 😱 Formic acid, if anyone wants to know the name.

    Mantis Inspired Art

@hysteresis @MantisGirl13 Thank you! 😊 Yours are amazing too! I would say they're better than mine 🤣

    Mantis Inspired Art

This is a drawing I made for a drawing class. The stippling took so long and some parts of the photo I used weren't very clear, but I finished! Some parts aren't showing very well in the picture of it I took though.

    Insects Mantises CANNOT eat?

I was under the impression that this disease could only infect crickets.

    Insects Mantises CANNOT eat?

Do you have a source or study I can read about the bacteria? I'm interested but can't find much info besides what's on this forum. Disease in arthropods is something that is sadly under studied. Just a thought--could falcarinol be a culprit, being a pesticide found in carrots?

How do we get this place more active?

Maybe the forum would be a little more active (by the people who joined it already) if we were more active in this off-topic section. I say this because of the other invert forum I'm a part of. I read about inverts and I like learning about them, but the off-topic stuff keeps me active on that...

    Insects Mantises CANNOT eat?

I'm not sure about other insects, but carrot-fed crickets are supposed to be fatal.

    Interesting article

Do dragonflies? Probably not? They deserve to be mentioned for their hunting skills though. Wait, parasites are sometimes fatal!

    Interesting article

I agree. Plus pinkies will be in a lot of pain for an extended time and I'd rather not force that to happen.

    Interesting article

That's as sad and wrong as saying that tarantulas are dangerous to humans so they deserve to die.  :(

    Interesting article

Cool. Wouldn't want the hummingbirds on my property getting eaten though. 🤣 Can I make a small correction?  :) Species of the genus Theraphosa only very rarely get that big. But you're absolutely correct in implying how tarantulas are amazing hunters! Other species that get large can take down...

    What's your least favorite insect?

There are other insects I'm not a fan of, but I hate mosquitoes just so much. Sadly I live in a state filled with lakes.

    Toilet trained mantids ??

Maybe honey could be a reward? But then, you couldn't feed it at other times. So we know they have at least some intelligence. They trained a jumping spider. I don't think training mantids would be completely out of the question...

What do you do with your mantids during vacations?

One of them molted before we drove and another the day after, so they had good timing not to do it during the drive back.  :)

What do you do with your mantids during vacations?

It's a cabin we are renting. I don't know if they would spray cabins so I'm probably being paranoid. At this point, I'm bringing them with pretty much for sure. I hope none of them decide to molt while we're driving.
