2 inches of body length on ghost mantids. Males look a bit longer cause of the wings!

My adult female Pseudempusa made a hissing noise whenever she was upset.... Really worrying :P

Adult females are very unlikely to move from a plant as long as you keep the food supply up. Just gotta watch for the cat :P

What about species which could go into diapause in cold months? I know Empusa pennata does, do any others? Though, with -10oC, they wouldn't survive that :P

I've been floating around for quite a while now, so I thought I'd pop here and say hello! I got back into keeping mantids again this year, and built up a small collection. Currently keeping Hymenopus coronatus, Sybilla pretiosa, Creobroter Sp. (thailand), Pseudempusa pinnapavonis, Phyllocrania...

Beautiful mantis, the projection on the head must serve to increase it's camoflage, or perhaps it has some other evolutionary advantage :) What sort of habitat/conditions did you find it living? And did you find a female, any chance of breeding?

Is it a male or female? Males don't tend to eat all that much. If it's been in the wild, there's a good chance it's already full anyway hehe.
