    Yen Saw - (US)

Got a Brunneria Borealis and Thesprotia Graminis ooth in the mail. Both were very well insulated and in perfect condition. His service and advice are always appreciated! Update: Thesprotia Graminis ooth hatched successfully!

Fluid-filled growth on Ghost Mantid's leg

Is it dangerous? Or just a mild inconvenience?

Fluid-filled growth on Ghost Mantid's leg

Not my mantis, belongs to one of the members of a Discord server I'm on. Any one know what it is? I've seen the fluid pockets on slightly mismolted wings before but not on legs. You can see the lump on the back right leg.

    FunSizedZoo.com

I've talked to Nick at FunSizedZoo for some time, always gave me good advice. Last month I successfully traded him some Brunner's Stick nymphs for a Grizzled Mantis. The Mantis in question came alive, healthy and on time. He provided the necessary materials for me to ship back the Brunner's and...

    Help naming each others mantids!

Barry's good. I got 3 Scudder's Mantids still without names. Any suggestions?

WTB T elegans, H coronatus, B mendica nymphs

Looking to get some Elegans, Orchid or Thistle nymphs. Any instar, just not adult. Females preferred but I will take males if that's all you have to spare. I live in Belton, Texas.

What happened to the Stenophylla Lobivertex?

I was just saying that the ones they have are most likely unrelated to the ones that got into the states.

What happened to the Stenophylla Lobivertex?

Maybe. However, given they are Peruvian, I bet this one is unrelated to those brought into the US hobby, given the species is endemic to SA in the first place. Could even have been caught by the individual themselves.

    Collection @synapze on Instagram

Ok, you've convinced me to get a Elegans. That's so damn cute.

    Constipated! Anything besides water?

I did that for Marky Mark when he got constipated. Worked like a charm.

What happened to the Stenophylla Lobivertex?

The species was briefly offered on a few websites and (understandably so) sold out almost immediately. Are they going to be further circulated in the hobby? Were any breeders successful? I just want to know if there is ever even the possibility of owning a beautiful species like that. I didn't...

    Hard to acquire species.

God, I'd pay stupid money to get a mating pair of those beauties.

    Telling apart Thespidae?

Update: After sending @yen_sawsome better quality pictures (see attached) he confirmed that they are all Scudder's. The species, like Carolinas, has several variations in color and pattern.

    Telling apart Thespidae?

Huh, I definitely have attached pics, maybe if I attach them to a comment?

    Telling apart Thespidae?

Apologize for my rather terrible pictures. My apartment has really harsh lighting so you can't tell the color difference as well as in person. The second one pictured was caught in central Texas, and is notably more gray than the one first pictured. It also has striping down the abdomen, no...

    Telling apart Thespidae?

After catching a mantis in Georgia, I had trouble IDing it for weeks. Eventually I thought it was a Thesprotia Graminis based on where I caught it. Later, @yen_saw corrected me and said it was the more common Oligonicella Scudderi, Scudder's Mantis. After moving to Texas, I have caught more...

    Hard to acquire species.

Blepharopsis Mendica. Love my girl but I will likely not be able to acquire another one for a LONG time here in the states...

    Weird Mantis

Could it have been a very similar species like the narrow winged?

Do Mantis do Good and Molt Okay in Critter Keepers?

I've just cut pieces of paper towel or burlap and used the trapdoor to keep them affixed and taut at the top. I also attach climbing surface (coconut palm fiber) to the back. Other than losing humidity a bit faster than glass, I've so far had no issues.
