    Mantis molting times

I always see them as little fairy’s. They look at you, crawl around— they all have their own personalities, from what I’ve noticed. Even my mother commented about how my mantis feels like a little human when I let her hold him. They clean themselves and stalk around like cats, and it seems like...

    Mantis molting times

He just molted when I woke up! I know mantids can’t think in complex ways but I can’t help but feel like that happened out of spite because I went to ask about it, haha

    Mantis molting times

So my giant Asian mantis hasn’t molted one what seems to be a month— he molted the 26th of July. I don’t know his age properly but the seller when I received the mantis said he’d be L3 to L5. He’s molted once, so his minimum age would be L4 and maximum would be L6. Should I start getting worried?

About those funky black abdomen lines

Just a few days ago he was digesting stuff so quickly I talked about him not gaining weight, now he’s a chubby boy. A finicky little lad, I gotta say!

About those funky black abdomen lines

Yeah I’ve been posting a ton lately, but!! I just love my mantid boy and I love this community :D I fed my mantid today and you know those black lines on a mantid’s abdomen? Well, on my boy, they’re more pinkish-red. I panicked for a bit, but I realized he’s still acting completely like...

Hi, I'm Rob from NB canada

Welcome!! I’m lucky to have found this before I started keeping mantids, it’s helped me so much with my little lads.

    Mantids seeing eachother.

From what I know, they stare at each other because they want to hunt each other— it’s a way for them to get eye rub, because they’re brushing up against their enclosures trying to hunt the other mantis and following them around. I’ve been told to put a paper or something between them if they’ll...

    Hey!

Welcome!! I hope you enjoy your stay here and have fun with your future friends. Ghosts are absolutely wonderful as beginners!

    Thank you

Aw, no problem, mate! Welcome!! I’m glad to have met you :D

    Is this normal?

Same temperature as my room— around 78 or so, because I don’t have proper air conditioning and I keep his enclosure away from the fans

    Feeding mantids Earwigs

He took it down successfully and is happily gobbling it up! He thinks the pincers are the head, though, I’m pretty sure, because he aimed for those first.  I didn’t know if he’d take it, but this is more proof on now ravenous Hierodulas are!

    Feeding mantids Earwigs

So, I decided to try and get different foods for my mantid by looking around my patio for things that look like he’d be able to eat (I’m fairly sure he’s L4 or L5) because the flies I’ve got aren’t hatching. I found an earwig and I wanted to know if I should feed it to him or if it’s better to...

    Feeding mantids honey

So, I’ve heard that honey can work as a type of medicine or treat for mantids, but I’ve also heard it can mess up their digestive system, and I wanted to know if something was up with that. I just fed my mantis a little bit of honey after some issues I’ve seen him have throughout the day in...

    Is this normal?

Update 2: I checked on him and he twitched his raptorial legs a good bit for some reason, but when I opened the container to check on him, he was acting fine, running around and stuff. I don’t know if it means anything, but I felt like I should say it. Now he’s being his usual self, dancing on...

    Is this normal?

So I checked up on him and checked his enclosure extensively— he hasn’t vomited or anything, he’s been acting like himself, his poo changed a bit in color but it’s to be expected I think because I went from feeding him black flies to brownish cockroaches  he’s really thin again, though— any...

    Is this normal?

I think it’s pretty unlikely— he molted on Sunday, the 26th and I haven’t heard mantids around his age molting 4 days after their last one

    Is this normal?

I’ve noticed my new Giant Asian mantis might be having some feeding issues. I just fed him some small cockroaches and his abdomen flattened almost as quickly as it swelled up. He hasn’t thrown up and he’s acting totally fine otherwise, but I just wanted to come and check if I should be worried...

    Funky Giant Asian Mantid Color!!

I still feel a bit too new to the mantiskeeping hobby to rear up a bunch of little mantids and ship them to sell, but it sounds like a really cool experiment/community project to do some day! And, if it helps— Ghost just shed yesterday, and it seems that he’s gotten lighter in color! I feel...

    Funky Giant Asian Mantid Color!!

That sounds really pretty!! :0  this lad’s my first giant Asian, I absolutely love him

    Funky Giant Asian Mantid Color!!

Color is genetic for the most part, but can change at later stages, my guess being due to the environment. With how light my boy is, I doubt he’ll gain color or darken up much if at all— he’s already gone through a good amount of molts from what the seller told me and he’s stayed that color...
