    Hello from Buffalo

I started this year with 3 ghosts as my first. I kept the two boys together in an Exo Terra Nano, and the girl got her own (I'd heard that girls were more likely to make snacks out of their fellows than the boys, and she was also a molt behind the boys, so for everyone's safety I separated). The...

    Hello from Virginia

No problem! I would just very delicately use my fingers. Put one in front of them to walk onto, and usually tap them gently from behind until they transferred themselves to the finger. Then hold them up to the lid or the side of the container and do the same. If you don't feel comfortable...

    Hello from Virginia

When I first got my leaf children (also ghost mantis), they were way too small to be fed in their homes. I would switch them into their travel containers to feed! They would go after the food right away, and I'd wait until they were done eating, then just transfer them back to their terrariums...

Was this something I should have expected?

*shakes fist at Kevin* you were supposed to be bros. I always knew it was a risk. They are predator bugs after all. Poor Kong.

Was this something I should have expected?

I have 3 Ghost mantises, 1 female and 2 males. These are my first. The female is in her own terrarium, and the boys share one (It's a nano terrarium, so plenty of room for the two). The two are right next to each other on the shelf. I've had them since L2/3, and have kept them in this setup...

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

They very much are! And I've unfortunately trained them to "momther has come back from a smoke break! It is time for food!! FOOOOOD!!" even if it's a couple hours early lol. I haven't bothered training them out of that one though, cause hey, I'm awake! You shouldn't have any problems with it...

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

He used to wake me up anywhere between 3-5am every morning begging for food so uh I definitely needed to do something. What I got to work was actually a lot simpler than I imagined. With cats, any kind of attention is a reward, whether it's praise or scolding. So yelling at him to get off the...

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

My cat got on the bed this morning after he heard my alarm go off. He's a good boy, and knows that he's not allowed to "talk" (or scream. Let's be honest. It's screams) to me or get on my chest unless I've acknowledged him and I'm "officially" awake (I often wake up multiple times in the...

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

My ball python grabbed his food last night but he missed the head. I came back later to find him coiled loosely around the corpse, staring down at it like "what am I supposed to do with this?!". There was still a dead rat on the bottom of his cage this morning. He just gave up.

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

I do have a sewing machine! Ironically enough, it also used to belong to my mom. I'll probably end up making him most of his clothes, though I'm quite intimidated lol. I've not had the best luck making people-sized garments, much less ones 1/3 the size xD

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

I went to a BJD convention on Saturday (it's a new hobby I got into this year). I was very excited, even if I'd only be able to go to the sales floor. Alas, it was a vast disappointment. For me, anyway. My BJD is a boy, and one of the larger ones at that. I was expecting to have some difficulty...

    Ghost Mantis and Dubia Roaches?

I do suspect it's the shape of the dubias. My partner tried hand feeding the boy, and the poor leaf child just couldn't grab it no matter what he tried. He ended up going out and buying me some crickets from a pet store we trust (a local owned one, not a big box), and all 3 mantis ate on...

    A concern about forum staffing

The forum owners don't seem to care about the content here, sadly. They didn't open the forum out of a love for these weird little bugs. I understand that forum hosting takes a certain amount of money each month, and members being willing/able to assist can certainly help balance that out (along...

    A concern about forum staffing

That doesn't seem surprising to me at all, sadly. It would definitely be nice to have someone doing actual mod-ly duties. I'd hardly consider paying money for a forum that doesn't have something like that actively in place, especially considering the ones I frequent who aren't asking for funds...

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

I've been watching my partner play Cult of the Lamb. It's a great little game, but I just wish they'd push more patches to the consoles already. At this point, the buildup of all the little bugs is making it almost unplayable on the Switch.

    A concern about forum staffing

I'm certainly getting enough messages from admin about becoming a contributing member, so they have time for that. Just not time to shut down off topic/disrespectful messages. It's not like this forum has a lot of activity that would require loads of time to check that everything is still a-okay.

    Ghost Mantis and Dubia Roaches?

I can definitely try that. I've avoided wild caught due to pesticides and such, but the children have gone too long without food. I have canned cat food, would that work in the trap? I'm assuming so, but just in case.

    Ghost Mantis and Dubia Roaches?

I had a little flub with USPS and my latest fly order, and currently don't have any blue bottles to feed some very hungry leaf children. I've got access to some Dubia roaches, mediumish size (about 1/3-1/2 inch), so I put my two L7 ghosties in their separate feeding tubs with two of the little...

    Is this normal behavior?

    Was she more a cat-bug, or a bug-cat? xD

    Is this normal behavior?

Yeah, it's a very different motion than trying to catch the food lol. Come to think of it, I haven't seen it discussed with all the research I've been doing lately either!
