    What happened to Asa?

He is waiting, biding his time; soon he shall become stronger and more powerful than ever. Even the Gods will shudder when they hear his name.

flwoer mantis lost a legg in transport..now what?can i still breed it?

Eh, I'd have to say it ain't kicking as much...

    oh no! diabolica!

The only thing that's iffy is that it's a big tank--will he be able to find food? Anyway, just see how things go. It very well may be trying to molt--and the whole damn molting thing really freaks you out as a beginner, because you think the thing is going to die--I was there, too. And still...

    Fruitflies too small for orchid?

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, it's not hydei I'm giving them, it's d. melanogaster. Gah! These things molt so fast I buy a culture and I already (might) need another! At least I have a chinese ooth sitting around that will hopefully hatch.

    Fruitflies too small for orchid?

One of my orchids molted (yesterday) and if I had to guess I'd say it's roughly the size of a quarter. When a fruitfly comes near it poses up and stares at it but doesn't attack. Are fruitflies too small now, or is it just not hungry because it molted...?

    Mantisplace

Everything came on time, fruitfly culture seems to be a different formula than what Nick used so it'll be interesting to compare how it holds out compared to his; also received a bonus back of excelsior! One small complaint: the chinese mantis ooth (wow those things are big!) came dislodged...

    Permits(In the U.S. only)

Because of 9/11? We must live in a pretty sad state of affairs since I find that absolutely believable.

    Permits(In the U.S. only)

That can't be right. Sounds like a rumor to me, although you really never know. A nearby Petco is selling scorpions, and tarantulas are always popular. Most arachnids are harmless.

    Permits(In the U.S. only)

Don't you just love government bureaucracies? Nobody knows what the heck the law is, it's a nightmare even finding out; if they want to get you in trouble they can, because the law is so convoluted and confusing you don't know what you're allowed to do (and there's always something you can be...

Great molt and then I don't know

I had an orchid that seemed to molt perfectly but just mysteriously died the next day. I think sometimes something may just screw up on the inside, I dunno... thankfully it was technically an "extra".

When they hatch, do you seperate them into

Illegal, yes. But I doubt that most with be able to survive, especially the more exotic ones; since all mantids pretty much eat just about anything that moves in front of them I don't think they'd mess with the ecosystem any more than the ones we already have here. Add in their...

How long can they go without food???

My mother went to a (more exotic) pet store and got crickets for me; they're all eating. Whew. I'm not going to rely on petsmart or petco anymore! Mostly overpriced stuff anyway, save some things they have.

How long can they go without food???

It's been about a half of a week without food because my culture died and the pet stores here are WORTHLESS. I'm ordering some off the internet, is there enough time???

    OGIGA

Ordered three; they all came in bad health and all died for some reason. E-mailed him, he sent me replacements (4 this time), one died following a molt so it's very unlikely to be his fault; the rest are all in excellent health, are eating, and have molted successfully. In the future I would...

    Orchid nymph--molting?

Does an abdomen that DOESN'T curl upward when it should indicate anything in particular? Injury, I'm guessing?

My Iris Oratoria deposed one ootheca....

If it was wild-caught, assume it's fertile.

    Orchid nymph--molting?

I think the mantis and its siblings must've been jostled around too much during shipping or something, then; they all appeared injured when I got them. It's been doing it with different legs here and there, sometimes one, sometimes two, and I think I saw it doing it with 3... It's also showing...

    Orchid nymph--molting?

I have an orchid nymph that isn't eating (apparently), mostly sits on top of its cage doing nothing-- and keeps a leg or both legs "up" (up to the mantis, down back to earth for us) and just sits there. Is this a normal sign of molting? Unfortunately, two siblings I received with it came...

    Pseudoharpax Virescens

Around since late Sept; like sept 26 or so, not sure on the date. It's only been a few weeks. I'll try to provide pictures now that I've finally sort-of figured out my mother's camera (for unfortunately another mantis-related reason).
