    Penda.

I ordered ootheca from Penda and I must say that I am very happy with the whole experience. The prices were very competitive, the selection was rather exotic, and the communication was excellent. Delivery was slow, but that was thanks to actually waiting for a mother to lay the ooth I wanted...

    Tragedy

Due to my own error and irresponsibility I have lost many of my best mantids. I recently moved and while we were getting settled in my mantids were being kept in a small refrigerator. The fridge was unplugged of course and the door was left open so that they would get plenty of ventilation. I...

    SCARED TO DEATH

Well I must say I have been very disappointed in the larger mantid species... for their size, the big guys sure seem awfully fragile. Especially Rhombodera Basilis & Clinea Humeralis. After reading time after time about what beasts they are I have been unpleasantly surprised at how easy they...

    Big surprise!!!

Last September my younger brother bought an adult male emperor scorpion. After about a month he decided to get him a mate and bought what we were told to be an adult female of the species from a pet store out of town. However when they were put in the same enclosure the female tried deperately...

    Mantis Flys a Kite

Funny story... yesterday I gave my subadult spiny males (which are being slowed down) crane flies which were buzzing around the house. Most people think crane flies eat mosquitos and are sometimes called mosquito hawks... but they really only eat nectar, and dont eat at all once they reach...

    Strange Stance?

I have notice on more than one occasion that one of my orchid mantids stands kinda funny... It rocks its whole body forward to where it is almost laying on its lower thorax and then puts its elbows way up high... it looks like a little kid laying on the floor watching TV... If bothered it stands...

    My Ghost Enclosure

Black sand on top of powdered peat moss. Kept at 85f and 70% humidity. Both are very dark brown/burgundy and have been kept in these conditions since L-2.

    New idea for keeping houseflys...

So I had my first experience with keeping houseflys recently, and I must say I sucked at it. Even after putting them in cold storage for a little while before trying to transfer them to my mantis enclosures, I still had several escapees, and then I guess I let them get dehydrated cuz 90% of them...

    Rescued another

Well I happened upon another mantis this weekend and saved it from the inevitable deadly frost on its way. Ironically I found her in the wood pile as I was stacking firewood in preparation for winter. She doesnt look much like the Carolina I found weeks ago. She is different both in color and...
