Just kidding. But, I did discover that my gongylus gongylodes absolutely loves these waxworms I found. I have gone through heck trying to find food that this girl will eat. Finally!

    SILKWORM CUPS!!!

Hey! Do you still have these in stock? I really need some. Are they soft enough for ghost mantises? I know that ghosts have soft mandibles. As long as they are less tough than superworms! THanks

Why Mantises Can Go So Long Without Food

It's not a project. I just had to read and answer questions for summer. I will bring in my mantises for show and tell when we get to the natural selection chapter. My teacher loves mantises so i'm sure he will approve.

Why Mantises Can Go So Long Without Food

I was doing my AP biology summer homework and discovered that insects are the most efficient organisms at extracting energy from their food. Most organisms lose much of that energy. Neat huh?

    Anyone else like fossils?

I used to collect fossils. I'm a bit of a science person myself. I have a raptor tooth, a T-rex tooth, some poo, and several trilobites. I bought a trilobite once for 400 dollars that arrived wih broken antennae! I ended up getting a refund and getting to keep the trilobite.

Went hunting. No mantids, but found these!

I found a grasshopper once that was about to die. I fed it to my mantis. I like grasshoppers a lot. I figured that he might as well contribute a last bit to society before he died. Circle of life =P Are you planning on keeping that hopper? If so how do you plan on doing so?

Oh forgot to add- We don't have horseflies where I live =( When I was in yellowstone a few weeks ago I saw (and killed) many of them. They would be perfect. How are they compared to blue bottle flies?

My Observation on the Care of Gungylus Gongylodes!

Thanks to Peter from Bugsincyberpace.com (I highly recommend buying from him if you haven't already) I have had a Wandering Violin Mantis for about a month now. I heard a lot about the specific requirements for them, mainly how they need heat (85-100 day and 80 at night) and winged insects. I...

    New Mantis Lover! HELP

Thanks for all the help everyone! Although he was rather small, I believe he was an adult because of his fully developed wings. When he was at the bottom, his "neck" looked like it had a white film covering it. I dont know why he would have fallen... He had plenty to hold on to. I made sure of...

    New Mantis Lover! HELP

Hey all! I have loved mantises my whole life. They always find a way onto my face whenever I am near one. I did a lot of research on them and then went out to look for one. I found a beautiful male (I think) and placed him in a large plastic container with drilled holes. I added two large...
