    Male won't mate :/

So I have a pair of Lineola mantids (raised from L2's from Rebecca!) that I've been trying to mate for several weeks now. Using Rick's method, I place the skittish male on a flat surface and wait for him to calm down, then put down Piggy (my female :P ) about 4 inches in front of him. With her...

    Water Mister

Those things are amazing! I got mine at Petsmart. I've also seen them at Fleet Farm if you have any in your area. I use them to give my birds baths :P

Took my mantis to school today

That's awesome, bringing mantids to school is always fun :) If anything, just for the looks you get by bringing a bug to class!

    Black Goopy Spots on Back?

PhillinYuma- You are absolutely correct. That sounds exactly like what she said, I just couldn't remember it correctly until you summarized that for me! I think she said it acted like an antibiotic, but must not have said it actually was one because I'm going with your knowledge over my memory...

    Black Goopy Spots on Back?

Aha, I just showed her to the Entomology professor and she said the black stuff is Phenoloxidase, which is an antibiotic they produce if they injure/scratch themselves. It provides defense against microbial infections, so she'll be just fine! :) Thanks for your help too, redsnow

    Black Goopy Spots on Back?

A few days ago I had a Lineola molt into an adult (yay!) but she has some weird black spots on her back, as pictured. I think it may bea wound from falling shortly after molting... But it hasn't scabbed over, hardened up, or anything really. I don't know to describe it as "goopy" or "squishy"...

    L2 chinese nymphs eating houseflies

That's so cool, our chinese nymphs are growing at like the same rate! My L2's just started eating tiny seed moths today, exciting stuff.

Bring your mantis to college day!

Thankfully mostly everyone who saw Sassy was intrigued, only a few were brave enough to hold her though! That's funny how some of you have gotten nicknames like Mantis Man and Mr. Mantis :P

Bring your mantis to college day!

Sassy, my Lineola, decided she wanted to join me at college today...This is her in the computer lab. She's a big help when it comes to homework ;) More like a big distraction :P She gets lots of "ooh's" and "ahh's" in lectures though! Any of you brought your mantids anywhere?

hmmm, that looks like mantis food

Although I'm still a novice, I've heard from several sources that some mantids actually prefer flighted flies, so the wild ones you saw would probably be devoured by yours! I can't wait until I can start catching wild bugs this summer... I want to experiment to see what types of bugs my mantids...

    Feeding L1 ghost

I have a dozen L1-L2 chinese nymphs and one decent ff culture is plenty for mine right now. Not sure how many you're getting, but just to put it in perspective. :) Have fun with the ghost, totally jealous! I love ghost mantids.

Woohoo just brought home some babies!

The mantids continue to thrive on the mosquitoes :) tomorrow I plan on bringing my adult mantid to show the teacher in charge of them, so I'll ask what her plans were regarding the mosquitoes and leftover mantids. A mantis crawling around on your notebook during lecture always gets a few...

    My first adult Lineola!! :D

New pictures finally!! Taken this morning. That help with identification at all? The colors look pretty accurate to real life.

Woohoo just brought home some babies!

You are completely right, ismart! The remaining mantids at college are as happy as can be with those mosquitoes. Most have become L2, and I saw a lot of them chowing on those little pests (the mosquitoes, not other mantids lol) I'm still not sure if the professor put the mosquitoes in there...

If you could pick two favorite Mantis?

Thanks for the info, sporeworld! I didn't know they were such good eaters, I may have to try and get some... after my future ghosts, most likely :)

If you could pick two favorite Mantis?

I would have to say my favorite would be the ghosts. I'm pretty new to the hobby, so I don't know of many species out there... But those ghosts are just so cool looking! They'll definitely be the next mantis I buy. I could raise an entire ooth of them! :D Second would probably be the...

    My first adult Lineola!! :D

Thanks guys, I'll try to get a better picture up. She's a light brown color overall, with her first set of legs (is pedipalps the correct term? Or is that a mouth organ? The zoology class I took last semester must not have done much help...) being a peachy color. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I...
