    Guapoalto049

Got my package early today! Ordered 5 majuscula nymphs and got a few extra, everything was packed well, and all ate immediately after being unpacked! After a day all look well and active (except for one slightly wimpy looking one that's been sitting belly-down on the bottom of its deli cup...

    COLEOPTERA (Beetles)

Hahaha, I guess I meant small in America, I know it's an awesome hobby in Asian countries. It's just been hard for me to find anywhere that's at least English-based and actively breeding.

    COLEOPTERA (Beetles)

I love beetles! Sadly the beetle-keeping hobby seems pretty small. I've been wanting some blue feigning death beetles for quite a while, but finding anyone that actually has any has been really hard. Beetleforum is pretty neat, albeit also pretty small and slow.

Wanted - nymphs of any LARGE species! Maybe an ooth.

Looking for nymphs of any species in the 8-10+ centimeter range. Preferably any hearty species that's good for beginners. Looking to get around 6 individuals, but if you have an ooth available instead, I can give that a shot. :P

    Best Substrate

Crazy! Any idea if newspaper or blank art newsprint would do the same? The only chemical treatment paper towels get that I know of is bleach, so using something recycled and unbleached might be better. Maybe?

    Tadpole Progression Log

That spiral gut, it's crazy looking! I've never seen anything like that on a tadpole before, any species I've encountered locally in the wild has been more or less pitch black. Well, now I know where the inspiration for this pokemon came from...

    NO MORE SICK CRICKETS!!??

Good to know! I had been hearing a lot of horror stories about deadly crickets lately, I'll keep Ghann's bookmarked until I have some babies big enough to take them.

    Idolo cannibalism =(

Yikes! Sorry to hear about that, kind of sucks... I guess the only way you could get around this is to very carefully try to keep communal mantises only grouped by instar, and the second it looks like one is getting ready to molt, move it to another container...

    The Joy of Spares

It seems so simple, but that really is a great tip. I had only one "spare" set up, to exchange one mantis into it, clean their old container, move the next mantis into the newly cleaned container, and so on, conveyor-belt style. :P I guess that is a lot of back and forth work, though! Guess I...

    Some I took tonight

I love the color and reflections on the eyes in the ghost shots, they look like cut garnets.

    Ack, how gruesome. D:

    Psychobunny's mantis zoo

Neat setup! Newbie question, why do your containers have two sponge-plugged openings?

    No more food

Haha, I can't tell if you're joking or not!

    My Cultivation Station

The terrarium is such an awesome setup! Even that temp ghost enclosure is cool, I like the twig "ladder", haha.

    Polyspilota aeruginosa L1 nymph

That stripe across the eyes is incredible!

    Hi there!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! Fault - Thanks for the tips and info, I didn't know about the popas with forum support, either. How does one go about taking advantage of that? I hadn't seen any mention of it outside of here, haha. lunarstorm - Thanks for the offer, but I've already got...

What does a really tiny wild caught eat?

Here's a tip for catching fruit flies! The flies fly down the funnel toward the fruit, then are unable to figure out how to fly back out. Don't make the paper funnel opening too wide, or they will be able to fly out easily. Only bait it with banana or other fruits, though - since you intend...

    Cutesy Little Wahlbergii

Aaah! They're so cute and pudgy as nymphs. Look at those big baby eyes!
