I read somewhere there are six mantid species native to the us...I know three of them- European Mantis, Chinese, and Carolina Mantis, right? But what are the other three? Thanks!

Thank you everybody for understanding- I think it's probably partiuculary hard to let go of your first mantis. I agree, I think next time I may try something different than a chinese. I'm thinking maybe a ghost, giant sheild, or a european. I hope I have better luck with them :)

On average how many mantids come out of an average sized european mantid ootheca?

How many molts until adulthood for chinese mantids? I think mine may be around L5. L6 at the most, L4 at the least. It's hard to keep track, they molt so often! But they are only a little over an inch long....they're big, fat, and healthy, and get a ton to eat, but I thought they only molted...

Hmm...yeah, maybe she's just a rare variety. I've never seen one like her, though. I"ll try to get a picture up soon to clear it up. So should I try to feed Her? Can she catch them without a web? Will will the babies hatch?

No, I'm positive it's not a wolf spider. Her body is way to big and circular, and we have tons of wolf spiders here- I could go catch one and compare them, but I'm sure she's not. 100% positive. And it said with the picture that it was a grass spider. Although I'm still not quite sure that what...

:) So...how do I feed it? It was under some cardboard, and had a little nest in the dirt- no web. Does it need to eat (dumb question). Is it attached to the eggs? How do I care for it? I'd love to keep the eggs and have them hatch.
