Pictures are good enough to show it is a nice mantis! Thanks for sharing.

    Orchids

I was just thinking how everybody seems to love H. coronatus, while I have seen enough of them, just because the awful lot of pictures on the internet. Ofcourse it is a beautiful mantid, but I've seen them too much. If I was better with plants I might make a beatifull vivarium for a adult...

Your bipapillas also look exactly like my membranacea Rather strange H. membranacea you have.

    Mantis book

Book looks very promising and tempting, but I think I'll wait for the English version (hope the while doesn't take too long) so I can enjoy it better.

    Mantis book

That book looks too good to be true! And it is... because it is in Chinese! But it looks so good I'm still intrested, depending on the price ofcourse. Is it completely in Chinese, or are the species names also there in 'English'. (Couldn't find the word for words that are not Chinese...

Pseudoharpax virescens, faceshot: Popa spurca big nymph: Pictures are resized. Unfortunatly I don't have these mantids anymore, so I am not able to try and take better shots. I do have Popa spurca, but they are small (2nd or 3rd instar).

    Please help identify Creobroter

Here are some pictures to make my point clearer. Following the pictures brancsikia showed, I have C. gemmatus and C. pictipennis, coming from the same mother? So maybe the only difference between C. gemmatus and C. pictipennis is in the (male) sex organs. It wouldn't be the first genus with...

    Please help identify Creobroter

How can you explain that two mantids from the same species have a different account of spots?
  11. T

    Please help identify Creobroter

Yeah, so that means your spot-method isn't accurate...

    Please help identify Creobroter

Are you sure? I have 2 C. apicalis from the same mother, but the first has 2 spots in her eye, the second has 1 spot in her eye.

    Please help identify Creobroter

Why C. gemmatus and not another (for example C. apicalis or C. pictipennis)? The why's can make this topic more usefull I think.

    Metallyticus violaceus consolidated

Funny. Maybe it's to soon after molting? Or have they eaten something else already?

    Valida and Stalli

    It is Rhombodera stalii ;)

so confused about my Popa spurca

I tend to agree with the people above. Had a similar situation with Hierodula membranacea and a few instars later it was easy to see that there were both males and females.

    Metallyticus violaceus consolidated

Fabelous. I fed fruitflies to sub-adults, so that also seems an option for people that don't have roaches.

    Metallyticus violaceus consolidated

Good for you! Did you already try to feed fruitflies? I gave mine some today, and they took the flies without hesitation. Even though it wasn't night.

Mantis Photo contest! For use in book.

Keep us updated about this book, I would love to have it! I have pictures from Popa spurca adults, but I doubt if they are even near good enough to be in a book.

    Confirmation on Miomantis sex

Not so easy to tell from this pictures, but to me she looks a little too slim to be a lady.
