    Yes!! Caught a male!

It's been a year, but the native Chinese mantids are returning to my area, and today I caught a male. Females are far more common where I live, so I'm halfway to starting my own colony. I have him in a relatively large plastic fishtank, with some driftwood set up for him to climb on. He's...

    Help! Dying Chinese

Yeah, she kept falling off of her stick and collapsing on her plastic log... She died this morning, and she was my last mantid. I catch all of my mantids wild, and I caught her in August.

    Help! Dying Chinese

She moves in slo-mo. When I try to feed her, she strikes at the food several times but always misses. The only way she'll eat is if you jam the food up her mouth, and even then, she won't grab onto it, just chew it kinda slowly. Her claws aren't paralyzed or anything... :?

    H. Grandis isn't looking so good...

I'm sure that she's an H. Grandis. She matches the pictures of them I found on MantisKingdom.

    A really obvious newbie question...

If a mantis lays an ootheca, but (at least to my knowledge) hasn't mated, the ootheca won't hatch, right? I'm kinda new to mantis-breeding, so I'm really desperate to get this answered.

    H. Grandis isn't looking so good...

California, in the valley area. I find them everywhere, and I am trying to start my own colony by breeding them, but that was my only male.

    H. Grandis isn't looking so good...

You were right, he died this morning. But he was from the wild, so I didn't expect him to live too long.

Do you think I should keep feeding him?

    Cause of Death

Well, I dunno if this will be any help, but a few of my H.Grandis have laid eggs in REALLY weird spots. Maybe it was just really picky. :?

    H. Grandis isn't looking so good...

Update:He ate 1/2 of a cricket today and is climbing on the sticks in his cage. Do you think he'll get better or die?

    Do you name your mantids?

My H.Grandis female is named Vicious... do I really need to say why? Male of the same species is named Cyclops, since he has 1 working eye.

    H. Grandis isn't looking so good...

He's sitting at the bottom of his cage, kind of sulking. One of his eyes is black and dead-looking, and his antennas are tweaked forward. He won't eat the cricket that I put in his cage, and I'm worried. What is wrong? :(
