My Dead Leaf Mantis molted! I need to Ask a Few Questions.

Am I missing something? I never saw him say anything about crickets :-S... A picture of the worrying area may help... Even if it was caused by the water drop I doubt it will do her any harm just make her look a tad different from the others.... As long as she starts feeding fine within a few...

How to get mantis back in the terrarium?

Or use a stick from her enclosure.. If you pick her up easiest way is to keep your hand flat and let her walk on... I wouldn't wiggle your fingers near her face as this will probably end up in her confusing your fingers for food.... It won't hurt too much though if she does just make you jump...

Two Mantids, Two very different appetites

She's 4th instar mate I do to think her laying an ootheca is going to happen for a good few weeks/ months yet..... As long as she's not paper thin I wouldn't worry.... She will eat when ready... Maybe try a moth or a fly? Or change the size of the feeder....

    How often feed

That method is all bad unless your mantis can not catch prey on its own from a bad moult.... By using that method you are forcing a mantis to feed when it may be preparing for a moult and all you've done is add stressing to this already stressful part of a mantis life.... If a mantis does not...

    Are Violin Mantids EVER Cannibalistic?

Yes they will cannibalise... No species of mantis is truly communal it's just depends on numbers your keeping and acceptable rate of loss....

Show Us Your Enclosures and Houses

Devonte cut a big hole in the lid and use hot glue and cover with mesh.... Or use rubber mesh and rubber band.... You really need mesh at the highest point as this is more likely to be chosen place to moult.... Add kitchen roll or whatever substrate you using at bottom and your homes will be...

    Post molt question........

Just carry on as normal offer water yes but do not spray the mantis...... Offer a single pray item after 3 days.... Wait 2 hours if not eaten remove the prey and try again the next day.... I've never seen or heard of a mantis finding a bush with tongs holding a cut open prey item being stuck in...

    Is My mantis molting?

When I had these I just ran a line of water in front of the mantis to drink from... I never once sprayed their enclosure.... I kept mine in 70% mesh enclosures..... As for your first question time will tell... No need to worry as long as your mantis has a good place to moult from it'll be fine....

    What Substrate should I use?

I'd advise against any spraying of the substate... I just smear a drop of water across the wall or mesh in front of this species (Pseudocreobotra wahlbergii), they really don't do well when it's humid or damp for some reason....

    What Substrate should I use?

Pseudocreobotra Wahlbergii don't do well with high humidity..... So use paper towel or like I do have no substrate..... I normally just have fine mesh at the bottom with these...... Spray then a very little amount of water just n the walls (not the mantis) once a week.....

Should I cut off his leg? :'(

If you choose to cut it off you could be making things much worse and leaving the mantis open to infections... That's not to mention the stress it would be under while you cut its leg off.. This could also lead to death... I say leave your mantis alone look at the improvement it's made in just...

    Holy hot glue gun...

After I've glued everything in place and its dry I use a soldering iron to tidy it all up... You'll need a damp sponge or cloth to clean the soldering iron as you go along as the glue will build up on the tip and start giving u webs again...

Is there any way to save this?

I agree as I've had the same when I first started nymphs with 2 missing legs but still able to hunt, however if you look at the pictures in 1st post u can see he's a leg one leg stuck in a moult which once free will be benta nd the free legs are all bent up also so the hooks will never be able...
