    Honey for mantises

I read somewhere ( I believe it was a mantid forum based in the UK) that some mantid owners had bad experiences with giving honey to their mantids. Anyone know why? I really would like to give honey to my mantids! Is there any particular type of honey people give? I have an organic honey from...

Why does my little Spodromantis Viridis keep biting/eating at skin on my hand??

He'll walk around a bit, then settle down and start chewing. I'm thinking it's possible it's the searching for moisture idea. I recall washing my hands once, and handling him right after. Even though I had dried my hands, I'm sure he could still find some moisture. But the second time he...

Why does my little Spodromantis Viridis keep biting/eating at skin on my hand??

My little mantis just recently started chewing on my hand when I let him out. Could it be something he smells on my hand? He literally gets to work and leaves a tiny piece of skin missing!

Do mantids always stop eating before a molt?

I have a Spodromantis viridis, and I think he molted overnight at some point. I've read that mantids usually stop eating right before a molt, but he quickly and voraciously ate 2 pinhead crickets during the day. His molt looks normal- I guess conditions just vary depending on the mantis? What...

Stupid question- upping humidity level in old, hot house?

Thanks! I meant to say in the hot, hot summer. It gets unbearably hot in here.

Stupid question- upping humidity level in old, hot house?

Sorry for this stupid question and even more so if it's been asked already! I live in an old house and have nothing for a/c other than a portable one I use in different rooms. When I mist my mantis (and other insects), it dries so quickly, I assume it's safe to up the humidity levels a bit? I'm...

    Hello from Southern California!

New owner of an African mantis (Spodromantis viridis), and just learning how to care for mantids. I look forward to gaining knowledge through endless questions..ha! As I learn more, I would like to experiment with owning different species.
