    Canadian Fruit Flies

Thanks for the reply, I do have access to them, that would work great!

    Canadian Fruit Flies

Because I do NOT have access to fruit flies. I have already said this. I'm not allowed to keep fruit flies. I live in a condo, and the owner of the building doesn't want a fruit fly infestation in they escape. Even flightless, I'm not allowed to have them. Pinhead crickets are fine though. I'm...

    Canadian Fruit Flies

It's a chinese mantis egg case, the flies will cost me well over $100. Would pinhead crickets work? I absolutely do not have access to wild fruit flies, I have stated this before. I can get mealworms, any size of cricket, and waxworms. Those are the only bugs I can get. I also can get baby food...

Are pinheads safe for newly hatched chinese nymphs? Thats really all I have access to.

    Canadian Fruit Flies

Can't find them on amazon. My local pet store can possibly order pinheads in for me. I will have to see how that goes.

    Canadian Fruit Flies

None of the pet stores in my city carry pinheads sadly :( . I will probably just cut up mealworms/crickets then. I think I'll make a Co2 chamber to kill them, as they just fall asleep and it isn't painful for them. Is it safe for them to eat bugs that have been killed with Co2? I'd think it is...

    Canadian Fruit Flies

Would it be possible just to kill and chop up larger prey(crickets, mealworms) and feed it to the nymphs like that? Would they be able to survive on that until they are large enough to eat live crickets/mealworms? I think I read that this is possible, but that you have to touch the bug parts to...

    Canadian Fruit Flies

Where can I find flightless  melanogaster fruit flies in Canada? I found them in a website called supercricket.ca I think, but shipping was ridiculous. Is anyone here located in Canada that could ship to Alberta? I don't mind paying $25 for fruit flies and shipping, but I don't really want to...

Are you located in Canada? The only place that I can find that ships to Canada charges $80 shipping to where I live. I'm not sure why though, I don't live in a remote area.

Darn! I can't find fruit flies anywhere! I have called every pet store in my city, and none of them carry fruit flies. I don't have any fruit flies at my house, and all of my friends/relatives who live close to me have already killed all of their fruit flies. I don't really want to pay $80 for...

The ooth JUST arrived! I put it in the ten gallon aquarium, with sterilized play sand as a substrate. I got some crickets yesterday, they have already began to lay eggs! Maybe they had bred in the container I got them in?

Okay, I do have 2 week old crickets, but I think I will just breed my own crickets, in order to get pinheads.  The ootheca should arrive tomorrow, I am very excited!

Cool! Thanks for the info! I was told today by an entomologist that mantis nymphs can handle 1/2" crickets. I doubt this is true, as you guys say to use fruit flies. Would 2 week old crickets work? I have access to those. I don't have any fruit flies around my house, but I do know people who...

I read about nymph cups on this forum, but I like the idea of keeping them together until their first molt, should help weed out the weaker ones. I can't seem to find a fruit fly culture anywhere that will ship to where I live. I am going to my local fish/reptile store, so I will see if they...

Hello,  I'm so glad I found this forum, as I'm very new to mantids! I have had reptiles, fish, and plenty of mammals, so I am experienced with other animals. I ordered a mantis egg case from the costco website, it should arrive in about a week. I'm in Canada, and am having a very hard time...
