My mantises butt has become really big

Yes keep feeding her. Yeah she is probably a Chinese mantis. And that's good that there is no ooze coming out of her. So it sounds like she is normal just maybe very fat. Keep feeding her and misting her with water.

My mantises butt has become really big

Also is she acting normal? Is she active and crawling around? still interested in food? If she is acting normal and accepting food she may be fine. Is she a Chinese mantis? But female mantises get really fat sometimes. Though if there is something oozing out of her then that may be a sign...

My mantises butt has become really big

Ok so it looks like a female and she may be egg bound. But females also get really fat sometimes so it could possibly be normal? It looks like a giant Asian type mantis? I can't quite tell. But from the picture I can't see anything that looks wrong other then she is very fat. So she could be egg...

My mantises butt has become really big

The image isn't showing? So can't see what's going on unfortunately. what species is the mantis and what instar? It sounds like he may have an infection or something. Or maybe there is a clog in his digestive system. Another possibility is parasites, especially if the mantis was wild caught.

    Need advice on found mantis

Glad to help! Sounds like she is doing well and enjoying roaches! And like someone said above she may even lay an ooth or two for you on the sticks. Yeah Carolina mantises are small and the males are even smaller and thinner! Once you know what to look for it's not too hard to tell them apart...

    Need advice on found mantis

That is a female Carolina mantis. She is quite beautiful. Sounds like you are doing quite well on caring for her. Though make sure not to mist too much or mold could grow. Carolina's like room temperatures so as long as you avoid extremes you don't need a heater, so 72 is perfect. For feeder for...

Wow that's so cool! Nice ooth hatching setup too. But how do you keep track of which ooth is which with them all together like that? I always keep my ooths separate.

    Keeping mantids at high elevations?

That is a good question. In my experience there doesn't seem to be much difference other then maybe acting a little slower then normal when I took mantises to around 4,000 ft. Though I didn't have mantises at 10,000 feet so that could be a different story. But fruit flies at least seem to get...

    Advice appreciated

Sounds like a nice setup for going more natural route with substrate etc. I never have substrate in my enclosures, other then coco fiber in a few setups sometimes, because of the high risk of mold and pests. An important note is that mantises will not eat gel water. Mantises drink water from...

mantis found in trouble - puzzling

Yeah it sounds like pesticides got to the poor mantis. That's what it does paralyzes the legs and such. Either that or it's a parasite. The convulsions tend to lend toward pesticides too. If the mantis is not able to keep fluids down it might be damaged internally unfortunately.

anybody ever had The Florida bark mantis, also known as Gonatista grisea, grizzled mantis, or lichen mimic mantid?

They are extremely hard to find in the wild. And actually have a range all the way to South Carolina. The chances or likelihood of finding one in the wild are quite slim. They live on trees pretty high up too. But I will say that Grizzled mantises are fun but hard species. I bred and raised...

Giant Rainforest Mantis (i7) acting weird after slight mismolt…

Is she refusing all foods? She may be preparing to molt again but refusing food for a long time seems a bit odd. Try feeding easier prey maybe? Feed her a bottle fly or moth and see if she eats those. Maybe because her arms are slightly crooked she is having trouble grabbing the roaches.
