~ My little brother needed some melanogaster fruit flies for his jumping spiders, so I got a vial, a piece of banana, some net from a garbanzo bean bag, and a few of my fruit flies and I made him his own mini culture! (This was before I had my media mix and excelsior) It just started to produce at about 2 weeks. I feel like a freaking genius. I definitely recommend this if you need a culture asap.
