Ok well i hve 2 B. mendica and i thought i had a breeding pair when they were young now i'm changing my mind. I think the first pic is female and the second pic i thought was a male but not sure.

Oh and the one in the last pic is one molt behind if that makes a difference.

try taking better shot and using photoshop to crop and zoom it for us..

I'm going to be bumming around the house tomorrow so i guess i will have lots of time to do it.

Yeah, the first one kind of looks like male. The antenna are much more thicker and longer than the one in the second pic.

Hi

As far as I can see, it is a pair . But the pictures are bad and picture 2 is difficult.Males have got 6 abdominal lobes, femals only 5. As far as I can see, picture one definetly has got 6 lobes. Picture 2 could be a female. It seems like a pair to me.

Males have got 7 abdominal segments, females only six, like all mantids, but it is more easy to count the lobes on the segments.

Maybe this link can help help you: http://www.mantisonline.de/deutsch/index.html

You have to put the black button saying "Arten" (="species") and than the black butten saying "weiter ->" (="go on->"). Than you can see a black butten saying "Blepharopsis". 2 pictures will open which are showing the differences between males and femals of this species. You can enlarge these pictures by clickin on them. "Männchen" is =male (left), "Weibchen" is = female(right). If you go on and put the white button saying "allgemein" (=general") and switch "allgemein" to "mendica mendica", you can watch some other pictures of males and females of every instar.

regards from germany,

tier
