2 for 2!

I previously got a wild caught European mantis pair to hook up, but tonight I achieved something a bit more exciting. I know this is a fairly commonly bred mantis, but my this is my first year in mantises. They are still connected as I type this and I have a pair of H. majuscula about to hook up. Pretty excited.

Yay! That is very great!

The male safely disconnected last night, which I'm very pleased about. He has four more ladies that could use him eventually. The H. majuscula finally connected this morning, after a long night of back riding. The male had a disfiguring molt, but managed to find the right angle. That's 3 for 3, of the species I have attempted! I'm feeling pretty good about all of this. Thanks everyone!

Not the best picture, but they have been connected all day now. You can see he is a bit beat up in this photo, and she is as well.... They had a bit of a bout in their first meeting. I'm surprised he was able to pull this off. Here's hoping everything is fertile!

Thanks, I hope so too! I'm very happy this is all working out for me. Whenever I get an invert I always try and make sure they breed at least once. Gotta make sure they fulfill their purpose in life, haha.

My ghost has laid her first ooth today. Any thoughts on whether it will be fertile or not?

Haha, no. He had a bad molt when he molted out to adult. You can see his thorax is bent and his wings are pretty messed up as well. I should say were pretty messed up. All males, but the ghost, have died.

Thanks! Currently only the ghost has laid, and only a single ooth at that. I'm really hoping the other two catch up. I've been feeding them plenty and have given them plenty of places to lay. Only time will tell I guess.
