So I received 2 orchid mantids in the mail yesterday from precarious and I am blown away already by their behavior.  I've raised Chinese mantids exclusively since the 9th grade and now I'm 24(14-24), so it's safe to say I am in need of a little change.  I've always wanted to branch out and try my hand at raising different kinds of mantids, but I never was able to for various reasons, but now I have 2 little guys.  They are completely fearless and at L2 they are taking out moths and flies much bigger than they are which is impressive.  I also love how they literally will walk up to a bug because their mimicry is so spot on!  Just wow!  This is so different than Chinese mantis nymphs! I am so excited to learn more and more different behaviors from this beautiful species!

Enjoy! Sounds like you are on your way to joining the ranks of us mantis addicts in the near future though! Orchid mantises can do it to ya! ;)  Those orchids really are fearless when it comes to pray though, and don't even shy away from pray items that are the same size as them, it is always impressive to watch them take down something so big though! I think it is because of the species' extremely strong arms, as I have noticed other mantis species with smaller/weaker arms having trouble keeping a hold of the big pray items when they try to take them down in the same way orchids do!

Orchids are incredible little insects! I loved mine, he was a pretty fearless little guy as well.
