Hey I'm Derp and I recently bought a creobroter nebulosa (a species native to china and India I think) and when it arrived I notice that the abdomen is flimsy because at the side its teared (the part where the thorax meets the abdomen) and one of its legs is not properly stretched out and only half of the leg is moving. I'm very worried that the abdomen will tear off and I I really hope a better future for my first praying mantis. If pictures are needed please reply and I'll give a picture to you of how bad it is. Thank you P.S I'm new here and my praying mantis is L6

That does not sound good. If you mantis arrived like that, you really should consider contacting the seller about it. They never should have shipped it to you like that in the first place.

The use of raw, unfiltered honey may be of help if wound is not too bad. Will help fight infection. Also, diluted honey water will help with hydration and energy. I hope it makes it.

My first thought was possibly injury during shipping. How was the packaging when it arrived?

The packaging wasn't damaged or anything and the injury is not causing any bleeding, and I don't think the shipper noticed the praying mantis wound when he ship it. And my mantis haven't been eating recently when he came and is always hanging upside down and falling because of one of his legs and when I checked on him today he was on the dirt struggling to get up. Poor thing

Yeah "Not noticing" is not a good excuse! The injury seems fairly obvious, the seller should have never sold that to you.

I mange to contact the shipper again and he said that he will shipped me 2 more mantis of the same species, the one more is for all the trouble, but I wasn't really caring much about that as I want my praying mantis to feel and get better as soon as possible a and he still hasn't eaten anything at all. Will be updating you guys about it soon enough thank you

Hey guys....... today Was a tragic day :(  due to his conditions I had to put him down and end his misery. The reason is today I got my fruit flies and just when I opened the cage, he was laying down on the floor barely moving. I took him out and examine him and it seems that the wound from the abdomen had stop his blood flow leaving his abdomen decaying and his whole body turning pale, at first I didn't know what it was because he use to have black stuff flowing out of his abdomen and I thought it was just harden so I brushed it away, not knowing it was his decaying body. He is right now laying on the net that I putted him on and a fruit flie infront for him and he is just laying down there. So I decided I should put him down as to end his misery for I am a bad mantis owner. Thank you for all your support guys :(

Aww, I'm sorry. The best way in my opinion is the freezer. I've wrapped mine in a little paper towel and placed them in a delicup, then I place the cup in the freezer. The cold slows them down and they go to sleep, then pass away. Sorry for your loss. @Derpderpderp

Am so sorry for the loss of the poor little guy. It is so hard losing a friend...we just lost a 19 year old pacific treefrog Bug Eyes, who died during a vet attempt to remove a mouth tumor. It is hard to remember that it is up to us though to do whatever we can and to do the right thing to care for other creatures including not letting them suffer. Hope your two new babies thrive.

THank you for all your wonderful helpful advice and wishing me the best of luck, I hope when my two new mantises arrive, I hope I can be a better carer, thank you guys

Unless I missed something in this thread to cause me to change my mind; I do not see where you are or have been a bad mantis carer! Unlucky maybe.

Totally agree with the wrapped insect in the freezer as the most humane way to "help" when needed. No direct contact, it just slows down totally.
