Everything wonderful that has happened in my life has seemed to happen by accident. To make a long story short when I moved in this stone house last month I saw these weird things seemingly latched onto the stone, but didn't pay any mind and i now know they are old mantis oothecae!

So, one day I was sitting outside having the worst day ever, and a bright green mantis walked out from under my car and I outstretched my hand to it. Not scared at all, she walked right up on my hand and as I lifted her, kinda cocked her head at me, and it was love at first sight.

Since that day i've leaned so much about the different species, and fruit fly cultures, and am excited to add to my collection and knowledge of them.

How is it that I have collected orchids all of my adult life, and I missed just about the cutest thing ive ever seen....the orchid mantis?!

And the ghost mantis, and the walberghii......so many awesome ones to choose from!

Oh yeah, and now everyone thinks im crazy since I "talk to bugs" :stuart:

Wonderful story of love at first sight! ;) and mantids do tend to cast a spell of cuteness on some people, while others are spellbound with sheer terror... Welcome to the forum for Florida! :) Enjoy all the knowledge that can be unlocked here... ;)

By the way that is a wonderful adult female Tenodera aridifolia sinensis (Chinese mantis)...

All the best,

Andrew

thank you, and im pretty proud of her myself too...lol. I read that Chinese mantids can be "bitey" but I haven't had one problem with her yet. Im concerned since she is an adult, and I have no clue how old she actually is, about the longevity of the situation......

kinda depressing.

Kind of makes you wonder what other amazing worlds are waiting to be discovered. Welcome from another recently smitten by mantids.

Welcome. Mantids in general won't really bite. The forelegs are far more likely to hurt. But then again if you know how to hold them it isn't an issue either way.

you are crazy as u said, and with that! Welcome! I am surprised by how many girls are not afraid to put their hands out! glad u stopped to smell the roses, and honey, been there seen that with the worst days ever, that's why we talk to bugs!
