Hi guys!

How long will it take for my A. formosana female to be ready to get laid with the male? The female moulted into adulthood last sunday - I feed her every day with house flies stuffed with honey and bee pollen - her tummy is bulgy, but she still seems t enjoy eating a lot of food though - so I still do not feel like letting them mate, since I have only one male...

Since you only have a male, wait till the end of this month. Female of this species feed ferociously and seems like never satisfy.
Golly! Won't she be laying infertile ooths during such a long period?

No, she wont lay that many maybe two if that. plus unless u keep your eye on them, it is not worth the 2 ooths she could lay. ;)
Shoot! Now you made me cringe! I'll wait past third week of her adulthood and then I'll try to mate them - wish me luck!

 sorry, i think I misled you into thinking she will only lay two. She will lay plenty, I just ment the first two !. Personaly when I put mine together, even though the female was hungry she ate and he mated with her right away, that was the way it was for all of them. But Yen knows way more than I do so wait like he said! I always go by the Higher powers voice!!! :p

Yeah - he is a mantis mogul after all, hehehe

You have not mislead me, I knew that you meant only the first two ooths - a necessary sacrifice, I just do not want to loose my only male - I worked so hard to be ahead of people who got this mantis two months ago - they have L4/L5 - mine are adult and ready to mate. I do not want to go too quick off the draw with mating if the possibility of cannibalism is so high with this species, so - just to err on the safe side, I won't be so hasty with leaving them in one container after standard ten days.

Who told you that? Mine all seem to be safe, maybe I better go look again  . No really, I just placed them with the females a second time and they are ok.

After about 18 days of waiting I let the the male into the lioness den, hehehe. Well, they are mating right now - so, it would seem that I will have another generation after all.

How do you incubate the ooth? Just like with O. planiceps?
