Adjusting Recent Posts List...?

Is there a way to change the number of Recent Topics/Discussions that appear on the Forum page...? I'd like to be able to browse new topics or recent posts more thoroughly, but I'm pretty new to forums...

I just click "View new content" it is on the top right of the page. This shows all new content since you were last logged on. If there is an unread post or topic, it shows a little red mark with an arrow in it on the left of the topic, if you are just browsing different forum categories. BTW, This topic will probably need to be moved to the "Other discussions" category.
