he/she started walking slower than usual and is now upside down on the container lid with an arched back,twitching slightly every few seconds.

 
Sounds like he's about to moult :)

You will probably end up doing what I do spend ages watching and waiting for him to moult, but it doesn't happen.

Then you go to sleep, wake up and he's moulted :) Well that's what normally happens to me.

 
How long should you wait until its ready to eat again.

 
I feed them at least 24 hours after they molt.

 
I guess I'm the only one who feeds mantises the same day they molt. If they molt in the morning, I give them food and they take it the same night. However, this doesn't work if they molt into adult because they don't eat for much longer.
