OK. This is starting to get on my nerves. I just buried my Budwing today and now my male idolo just died. He was only adult for 18 days. I think he should of lived for a little longer than that. Don't know if something is in the air or what. I can see my other mantids dieing after being adult for a couple of months, but 18 days? I misted him daily and had him at a temp of 85 - 95 degrees. started feeding him House flies again. I feed him crix during his sub adult phase. My popa spurca is doing well and actually took flight again today and flew around the room. My little budwing are doing great molting and eating a lot. What gives? Are mantids this short lived? I raise them the same as I do while they are growing up and they have reached adult. Not sure if I can take this much longer. If this is a normal life span I can live with that, but if I am doing something wrong please let me know.

I'm not sure if is the Crix ... but I lost 4 Double shield from L5-L6 died for no reason after eating some Crix ......but others are fine that's eating Crix...

I wouldn't consider 18 days as an adult normal but I have no idea what could potentially be effecting some but not all of your mantises. It could be you are just having a string of bad luck with a few of your mantises passing around the same time but from different unrelated issues. I also wouldn't expect you are doing something horribly wrong condition wise or they wouldn't have been able to thrive and reach adulthood in the first place.

I know I have seen you mention having some other issues with some of your adult mantises recently but can you recape on the species, age, and general date you lost the others on so we can get a fuller picture? Is there anything new you have been doing recently?

I don't have an accurate date as to when they died. I haven't been keeping track. It will only be an approximation. I am using the forum post I made to determine dates since I document everything on this forum.

2 female & 1 Male H. Majusculas.

Adults for approximatly 30 days

All purchased on 2-02-12 @ L-2

All Died Between 7-12-12 & 7-23-2012.

1 Idolomantis Diabolica

Adult for 18 days

Purchased on 2-02-12 @ L-2

Died 8-07-12

Had 2 others that died due to mismolts.

Budwing

Purchased in January.

Adult for approximately 3-4 months

Died 8-7-12

The budwing sounds like she could fall within the normal ranges but the Idol and the Majusculas do seem premature. Did you notice any warning signs before they passed? Where they having trouble eating, not eating as much as they should be, not passing proper shaped frass, or not going at all, vomiting, having trouble crawling, or so on? Was there anything new about the routine?

One of my female H. Majuaculas died the same night after mating. She ate up untill she died. I just switched my idolo back to a house fly diet after feeding him crix for his subadult phase. He stopped eating a day before he died. All others stopped eating about 3 weeks before death. They were active for the most part up untill death as well.

Oops missed this reply. I must admit I a stumped for any suggestions on what it could be, especially since it is different species passing at different times.

Very hard for us to diagnose any issues over the computer. That is not a normal lifespan in my opinion. Check that you're getting good ventilation and maybe check the water you're spraying with. Switch to distilled maybe? I've had the same issues as you on more than one occasion. It seems to happen every now and then. It's probably just a bit of bad luck.
