hi i have just taken delivery of a few oothecae and was having a look at them when i came across this thing..

all the others look as they should (should be yet more chinese mantis).

if any one has any idea of what this might be it would be a great help.

i thought it may be one of 2 or 3, or maybe a miss-laid ooth, (though it looks from tiny patch at back to still contain eggs).

many thanks.

European im guessing and the last pic is Chinese for sure

That ooth looks to me like Tenodera angustipennis narrow-winged mantis. I have raised that species before. It's not deformed in any way that is what it's supposed to look like. Where did you get the ooths from?

If that's what it is raise em just like the Chinese as they are very similar.

Ricks right, just raise them the same way you would raise your common chinese. Are you planning to hatch them all together or seperatley? Because if you hatch the narrow-winged ooth with the rest of the chinese they will be at a disadvantge, they are a little smaller than the common chinese. So they can be found in Pennsylvania as well. I found mine in the bronx.

ill be keeping this 1 seperate from the chinese as want to see what i get from it so, not looking at hatching all together.

im keeping about 4 chinese for myself and this other 1, and others are going to other people (few into my mothers garden and greenhouse) and a couple up for grabs.

how many young could i see from this ooth, 50 maybe? as i know chinese, you get alot from one ooth (2 hatched monday with about 500+ babys!)

cheers.

I would say about close to 200 nymphs would hatch out of that ooth. I had one a little smaller than the one you have and it gave me about 150 nymphs.
