Due to running out of space at home, I've asked my boss and he's allowing me to use one of the rooms at my workplace to breed and keep the Mantids trantulas and my other inverts. Here's the layout of how things will work: there are no Windows so lighting will be overhead fluorescent tubes that are controlled by a timer. Heating will be done with a space heater that is controlled by a thermostat(so the room never gets above 83 and never below 75: my preference for the species I keep). Humidity will be kept constant by a humidifier And once every four-five days misting. There will also be two fans to keep the air circulating.

My concern is the lighting. Do I need to find somewhere with a window, or do artificial lights have the same effect for a mantis as normal sunlight? Any help would be extremely appreciated

Artificial lighting is fine and is what most people use. Sounds like a good space.

Sounds like a sweet deal, clock in for work and play with your mantids :D Seems it will be a great setup, your own insect walk-in humidor. You'll have to post some photos when you get it done.

Indeed I use florescent lighting for mine too, and have seen many others do too from their photos (See below topics). Originally I had one tube running the length of my shelving area, but recently upgraded to two plant/grow/sun style bulbs for my vivarium attempts. I haven't heard any complaints from them yet from either type of fluorescent bulbs

Here are a few topics of others setups, habitats, and even rooms - might give you some ideas too.

I used to keep some under some reptisun bulbs but I don't think they need specific lighting.
