This is going to be the largest insectarium in the country, it will open this Summer (date to be determined).

I was contacted by the Director of Animal and Visitor Programs of Audubon Zoo (who will also be in charge of the insectarium) from New Orleans recently, apparently Houston museum had given them my contact so i have been supplying mantis to them recently and was invited for the behind the door tour for the new set-up. If anyone here ever plan to visit that zoo and wanted to see more of the insectarium exhibition, let me know. :) surely, i can bring you to the nursery room behind the exhibition of Houston Natural sceince museum too if you are interested.

Cool!! We should have an insecterium opening in Albuquerque, NM in 2009. Though I doubt it will be as large.

Are there any other insecteriums/zoos in the US? I have been to the one in the Cinncinatie(sp) Zoo. Anyone know of others?

 It must be the season for bug zoos Yen, I am doing the same thing in NE for a zoo there! Isn't this wonderful! Mantis on tv, in music videos, being sent to zoos, children of all ages will finally learn and see the regal Mantis! ;)

Mike, the live insect exhibition can be found in natural history museums (insect zoo section) around the country, and most of the zoos here don't keep mantis as you may know, but it is slowly changing as i see more insectarium are being added as part of the zoo package. So far the most exotic set-up i have seen is in the Moody Gardens pyramids at Galveston here in Texas.

Yup. it is still winter but i can smell spring over here now in Texas :)

Aww, it's so far away! [from me] Maybe bugs just grow better over there because of the moist and warmer climate, huh?

I actually work at an insectarium. It is in Durham, N.C. (The Musum of Life and Science). That how I get my dead leaf mantids in from malaysia. :D

The insectarium is VERY large...plus theres a HUGE butterfly conservatory :)

I'll post some pics of it soon!

Yeah it is at the Gulf coast so quite a distance for the Californian. Even from Houston it is a good 6 hour drive. I have driven from Texas to California once, that was a long drive!
