Introducing you to mantids unaccessible to mainstream culture: Snake Mantids (Kongobatha diademata & more False Garden Mantids (Pseudomantis albofimbriata).

This is Quetzalcoatl, the male adult Snake. Only 2.5cm (~1in) long fully grown.

I think he's sort of built like an exclaimation mark

Peggy (centre) bit off her own right raptorial arm after a St. Andrew's Cross Spider bit it.

The staring battle. First to blink loses

This turned out to be a wierd pic. Nice threat display by Brown but it appears that I have a Siamese mantid in the background :lol:

Nice blue coloration underneath the wings.

I'll be over at Olga's tomorree so I'll post another on two other species found in Sydney.

And it ain't the smallest we have here. Up in Queensland is Bolbe pygmaea, smallest mantid in the world. What's the smallest mantid in the States?
