I have a mature female Blue Flash that has some sort of black spots on her wings that look like little drops of tar.She seems very sluggish and has only eaten two crickets in the last few days which had to be put right in front of her both times.Any thoughts?

The black spots might be blood. Could she have been injured?

I just recently had an H. multispina molt to adult and somehow she bled from the wing/wings as she was forming them. I cleaned her up after a couple of days and now she is fine. Thank goodness.

I use a moistened swab to clean the blood off, but only after it has dried to black. It comes out kind of green and darkens as it dries.

Many mantids have black spots on their wings. See that alot in wild mantids.
