Hello everyone!

I was introduced to this forum from mime454 who I met at www.reddit.com/r/mantids

I am currently raising a single female Chinese Mantis who recently made it to pre sub-adult L6. I just posted a bunch of pictures of her in my gallery (I'm not sure how everything works around here yet).

I bought an ootheca from the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in South Deerfield, MA on my 4th wedding anniversary weekend. After they all hatched a month later I had to quickly educate myself on how to actually raise these little buggars. My wife and I love watching her and I've enjoyed learning all about raising insects from sources like this forum. Thank you all for your interesting posts!

See you all around!

Is she the only one that survived?
Unfortunately yes. I had originally set aside five to raise. Two died pretty quickly, one died shortly after from a feeding accident, and the 4th one died after a bad mis-molt #3. Although she doesn't have any mantis friends (or mates) she now gets our full love and attention. I've been pleasantly surprised at my wife's patience with her. She's typically a run away from bugs kind of gal, but she hasn't protested yet (even after being tourtured with mantis kisses). :devil2:

What exactly are mantis kisses?
Hehehehe That's when I act like I'm in grade school again and hold the bug up to my wife's face and make kissy noises saying "Awwww, she wants kisses, give her kisses. Mm Mm Mm Mm"

Yeah, I get way too much enjoyment out of teasing my wife.
