So my ravenous female who has already eaten 3 males finally mated last night, Im super stoked!!! This is my first successful pairing of this species. The male was placed into the females cage, since she has the larger terrarium and hes been living in a deli cup his whole life. Upon placement in her tank, he immediately flew to the cieling and watched her intently for his chance. Despite having eaten a dozen or more flies earlier in the night, she looked at him hungrily, so I distraceted her while the male summed up enough courage to make his move. After what seemed forever, but was probably ten minutes, he flew down, landed on her back and started drumming on her wings with his raptors...A light massage to set the mood, he's smooth. Actual connection took place about 5 minutes later, and the male really had to contort himself to make the connection work. Initial connection lasted about an hour, after which he remained on her back, and I noticed her projectile eject a clear blob of liquid from her abdomen. Reinsertion occurred about 5 minutes later and they were still connected when I went to bed. This morning they are no longer connected, but he remains on her back, and she doesnt seem that pissed. I saw her snag a fly before I left for the lab. HOPEFULLY this little guy got the job done! He was my LAST MALE.

I took a bunch of mediocre pics through the glass that Ill post up as soon as I find my camera cable.

The way she was eating males I was seriously worried. The last male I tried to mate with her she caught mid air with a crazy swivel move right before he landed on her back

Congrats, I mated my female two times however it's been a month and a half still no Ooth. I hope she is not egg bound she is very fat.

It took me 2 males to get a Orchid female mated some time ago, I put both in there and the first was eaten a couple hours later, but the second must have learned from the others mistake and successfully mated for hours with her, but he was also just a pile of wings in the morning when I looked, then when she did lay a ooth it was all messed up and part of it was hanging in mid air, it never hatched and she stopped eating then died laying just the one bum ooth.

My opinion is they're just as hard if not harder to successfully mate than Idolomantis, the males are just so darn small ...

so small!!!!! The males look like they have a serious issue just connecting in the first place!!!!. Im really.....REALLY hoping that it was a good mating. The male has been drinking and eating so I think all is well. I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE!!!!

Thanks all. The female was from Yen, which was apparently from a WC Malaysian ooth, and the male was from Buginthebox, so this is a pairing of totally unrelated animals, good for the captive gene pool!!! Im really hoping that they got the job done last night. And again this morning.

Awesome! Great job dude!

They are definietly a hard species to breed and I really hope you get a couple of nice ooths out of it...then maybe I could get some nymphs ;) lol.

I've wanted to try my hand with this species for a while now.

Best of luck!
