I have about a dozen budwings, and some of the males have already eclosed. The females are coming along nicely but look as though they have a couple of molts in them yet.

I was wondering if anyone with experience with this species can tell me when I can expect the first ooth from the first mating to hatch, and will it be on a weekend? I would like to know so that I can have a few pots of mels ready. Also, if you can tell me how many males and females I can expect, that would help too.

Thanx in advance for your help!

Phil, how many molts for the males to become adult? I have L6s at the moment, I'm assuming one more molt, then they're adult (males...?)? They're still bloody small, about an inch maybe.

You're asking for quite a lot of specific and unpredictable information, Phil, my friend. In my experience, the males mature to adult first, then the female/s mature and eat all the males. But all is good because the one or two females get their use from the males before they have them for dinner. That's all I have to say about that. ;)

Who, me Katt? :D I thought that everyone had let this die a decent death! I guess the most important part of my question was about whether the ooth would hatch on a weekend, but if the Cardinals continue to do as well as they did last Sunday, it probably won't matter. :(

Is the post suppossed to be a joke? if not, there is no way to tell what day they will hatch, but give 6 to 7 weeks and they will hatch, the female usually becomes adult shortly after the male, and within a good week and a half will mate and another couple weeks and will lay.

Thanks, Rebecca!
