well once I get my female chinese adult from katnapper I am going to attempt my first breeding with my male mantis but wonder if one of these ideas could work as a place to breed them as I have a open guitar case with a black plush interior I was going to use to place the female on then the male on in a climbing fashion so the male would have to climb up to the female or I could just use a 12x12x12 net cube for the mating inside as this worked well with 2 of my female creobroter nebulsa mantids. Or i could just open up my shower door and place both of them in the shower but on the shower floor and close the door and just observe their behaviors until they link and then let them be!

hmm means i have to clean the shower LOL which I just did and get all the soap residue out of the shower and what have you and I put my male in there just to see how he reacts to it and hmm seems the mantis had a slow time climbing up the Porcelain sides of the shower stall but climbed it a bit!Jus curious is the shower just that much easier to use to mate the bigger species or something that I am missing?

You could always put a big house plant in the shower, mist it good and set them on it, or get something from outside that u can hose off and make sure is clean, instead of cleaning the shower, I dont think a dry shower will hurt them, but what do I know?

If those methods don't work, try mating them outside on plants (put them on plants that they like to stay on). Once the male settles in, wait a few minutes and then introduce the female in his field of view but not too close. Make the female walk, run, etc. and if the male shows any interest, place the female on a stick and lower her towards the male (rear-end of the female towards the male so the male can use his antennaes to "feel/sense" her back wings). If he's ready, he'll jump on.

The risk: you have to watch your male to make sure he doesn't fly away.

well I might try the net cube as a mating medium as it has had already been a successful place for 2 of my nebulosa females and well and worse comes to worse I can unzip it and leave it open a bit so the male if he has to run for his life to get away but and hopefully will have another success with breeding as the only other merium i used with a good rate of success with small mantis species is a lock and lock container thats not too big but used it with a good success rate on all the species mated in it including previously my gemmatus and gambian females! But it wont hurt to try each of the spots already picked out at least its in a controlled environment where I have complete control over every aspect of the area they will be placed in!

Large cage or loose in a room. I put mine on a houseplant or curtains.

I'm far away from this aspect, but do they stay on the curtains? Seems like I would probably lose the little fella's
