Okay am I cursed or something? When I bred chinese, males connected immediatly without issue. Whenever I try to breed exotic species (gsefm and hierodula) the male has issues connecting and never manages to. Right now Metal mounted Marie like 20 minutes ago and is having issues connecting (missing her abdomen, he's way off) I need some advice.

wait a day or 2 and try again thats about all you can do for the males as I never had this exactly happen to me but I can assure you give him a day and try again and use a net cage or similar and place them in it alone with nothing else in the cage or whatever but the 2 mantids so they can see one another and mate eventually as this is the best advice for you right now!

well tomorrow Marie will have been an adult for 2 weeks. but my gsefm pairs tried to mate from 3 weeks onward and females were mounted everyday and no connection occured.

What kind of an enclosure, if any, are they in when they you try to mate them? Have you tried placing the males and females in different rooms for a few days in case the males have become desensitized to the females' hormones? Have you shown them sex education videos?

i would put them in a enclosure and just not pay attention to them when u seem them near each other and just let them be and dont watch them and maybe is there insects or something else with them as that can also stop them from mating and also this will stop a female from laying as well if there is other insects in the same space as they are!

Well breeding the gambian is not that hard to do but it depends on how you set the situation with the pair that will result in them succeeding or dropping the ball and just imagine this insect is like one of your other mantids you succeed with and just put your faith in the effort!
